The line was going up on the screen, and so was your awareness. The soft green giving your mind a small break, until the announcer came back. “Oh, sorry folks, looks like some people just withdrew their investment into awareness, and that line is going down!”
The headset sent a new pulse into your mind, and you felt yourself drop again. Eyes still locked to the screen, you could see that green line had slipped into red, and was moving downwards. But there were other lines, on the rise. The announcer was still calling out the changes.
Arousal, obedience, pleasure. Three separate lines, all on the same upward trajectory. The people around the room were occasionally looking away from you to look at their tablets, each investment they made altered one of the lines. Sometimes a little. Sometimes drastically.
And in ten minutes, the exchange would close. Your current state would be locked in. Then the next part of the party could begin. But, you didn’t have the mind to think of that right now. Or anything. Thoughts were at an all time low. But obedience? That was riding high.
