Blip

You are lead by a voice to a doorway, and made to submit.

* * *

Your headphones gave a soft blip, and then continued to play your music. It was several moments before you noticed the soft distortion, underneath your music. You thought it might have been your headphones, so you unplugged them and plugged them back in.

The distortion was stronger this time. And, you realised, it wasn’t distortion at all. It was a voice. Under the music, behind it. Not perceptible, but definitely audible. But you didn’t mind the voice. It was nice. It was soft, and pleasant, and easy to have in the background.

This was your stop. You got off. Where were you? It didn’t matter, all that mattered was that you had to follow the voice. Down this road, then another, and another. Each step left you feeling more comfortably blissful. Mind more open, more blank.

Finally, you were standing before a door. Something was holding you back from approaching. You wanted to go closer, but your body seemed to not want to obey. The music thrummed louder, the voice became a single word. “Submit.” Over, and over again. You were saying it too.

And finally, your body did just that, submitted, followed the voice, just as your mind followed the voice. Up to the door. You raised your hand to knock, but the door opened for you. A figure stood inside, wreathed in shadow. They raised a hand, and beckoned you forward.
