The right headspace

You felt yourself beginning to fall, as their hand moved up, and then began to plummet down. You felt your mind sliding, irrevocably, down, down into trance. And then, just before you were about to drop away into that sweet mindless space, you stopped.
Something felt… Off. You couldn’t describe it. You opened your eyes, to find your hypnotist smiling at you. Their smile dropped away, and concern flashed across their face. “Hey, sweetie, are you okay?” You nodded. You were feeling okay. It was just – you should probably say this.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m okay. I just. I felt a bit off, as I went under there?” You looked up at them, you hoped apologetically.
“Was it something I did wrong?” they knelt down, getting onto your level, offering their hand out to you.
You took it, as you shook your head. “No, I don’t think so. I think I’m just not in the right headspace right now?” You looked away from them. “I’m sorry. I’ll be more aware of it in the future.” You felt them shift slightly, getting more comfortable. You looked back at them.
They were frowning slightly. “You don’t have anything to be sorry for, sweetness. You can’t control how your body or mind are going to react to things. If you’re not in the mood right now, then you’re not in the mood, and that’s okay. Okay?” You nodded. That was fair.
You still felt a little bad, but as they pulled you close to them, holding you softly, that too began to pass. This had just been a moment where you weren’t up for it. And as they said, that was perfectly alright.
