Yo-yo

Your hypnotist smiled, holding the circular object in their hand. One finger cocked slightly, their eyes met yours. “Okay, toy. I’m going to explain a bit first, before we get down to business.” Their eyes didn’t leave yours, and you did not look away.
They continued. “So, all I’m going to say is down, and up. And each time I do, because your mind is so, so wonderfully conditioned to obey me, you are going to sink down, following the movement with your eyes, and come back up, again, following the movement.”
You didn’t quite know what movement they were talking about, but, as their eyes were still locked onto yours, it was so easy to follow. So easy to obey. “Okay pet… Down.” They flicked their wrist, and the yo-yo in their hand went spinning downwards, the lights activating.
Those same lights combined into a spiral of whirling colour; it held your gaze, dragging your eyes, and your mind, down, into trance. “Up.” And as the spiralling colours sailed up, so did your mind. Back up, out of trance. They laughed as you slowly blinked.
“Ooh, okay. I can see this working nicely. Down.” They flicked their wrist once more and you were sent down and down and deeper down into trance. “Up.” Then, just as fast, you came back up. “Down.” Down you went. “Up.” And back up you came.
This looping cycle of “down” and “up” left you feeling so spacey, and before long, you weren’t really noticing the direction of travel. Just the movement, which felt so good to watch, as their voice filtered into your mind, which was bouncing up and down, just like the yo-yo.
