Prisoner

* * *
A light clicked on, a buzz that pierced the silence, just as it pushed away the dark. It revealed someone sitting opposite you, in a similar grey metal chair that you were in. The single light swung gently, casting their face into shadow as it moved.
Your body wasn’t bound, but something had been done to you. You felt heavy, sluggish. The person facing you leant forwards. “How are you feeling?” They said.
You were confused. You didn’t know where you were, or how you had got there. But you didn’t say that.
Instead, the words that fell out of your mouth were “I must obey the collective.”
The person across from you smiled, and that made you feel so good. They spoke to someone behind you. “A couple more days should do it, weed out the rest of their thoughts.”
You felt hands grab you, lift you, and pull you away into the darkness. You wanted to fight, to kick, to scream. But your body wouldn’t obey you. You were a prisoner, captured. And a small part of you liked it. Wanted it. Wanted more of whatever this was. The light clicked off.
