New Run

* * *
“Level beat! Going deeper.”
As your character moved down to the next floor, your already spacey mind fell a little deeper. You couldn’t tell how many runs you had played, all you knew was that you couldn’t tear yourself away. Couldn’t resist fractionating yourself more.
And each time you took damage, the game let you know that your mind was slipping away. Each time you picked up an item, your mind felt more open, more susceptible to the game brainwashing you. But now you were further than you had ever gotten before.
And the background music changed, from the soft soothing tones that helped to relax you, to a new, stronger rhythm. As the voice of the narrator told you “Sit back and obey drone, we’ll take it from here.” You took your hands off the controls, and the game did take over.
Took over your mind. Now the game was playing with you, making you touch, making you repeat the mantras that the game had instilled in your mind. As your character carried on, not fighting, instead sealing themselves in the brainwashing chamber.
And then, you were starting a new run.
