How well does one know oneself? Yes, one can stand before the mirror and count one’s blemishes and beauty marks, but what of the unreflected side? Ah yes, yes, that’s it, you can turn and twist, and align an array of counter-mirrors, revealing what is behind and what is affront, what is aside and even what is above|below. But does one’s heart beat at pace? Does one’s liver squeeze all the poison from one’s blood? Yes, you see the trouble now, don’t you? The limits of reflection. No. Not yet, less you be a fool. Because the great failure of the normal mirror is that it shows only a single moment, and never a yesterday, never a tomorrow—which is where the self resides.
