You’re talking with your friends, sharing your latest thoughts on the latest show you’ve all been watching. As you’re speaking, one of them smiles playfully and says “puppies go arf!” and the word you were halfway through saying becomes a “woof”. You try to focus and finish your sentence, or say any human word, but even as you open your mouth you can feel the puppy noises slipping out as the heat rises on your face.

Summary: The listener is put into a trance with an induction with a heavy focus on building anticipation of being toyed with, which also uses confusion and fractionation elements. Both the induction and body feature sequences where the listener is fed a line to immediately repeat back. The listener is given a countdown where they drop so quickly that several numbers are skipped over, after which the trigger phrase “puppies go arf” is installed, with the effect of switching off the listener’s ability to use human words and replacing them with puppy noises. The listener is unable to use human words until given permission by the person who used the trigger, or by themselves. The trigger is practiced several times, being used while the listener is in the middle of repeating a short sentence they’ve been told to say. At one point, the listener is brought out of trance, and is made to make puppy noises with the trigger to drop themselves back down. Finally, the listener is given a chance to practice giving themselves permission to use human words before being counted back up.
