Locked Out Final Page Rough & Creation Blog

For this post I felt like it might be fun to give a mental view into how I came up with this composition! So here it goes ^_^

A) The beginning- as this was the final page, I wanted an image that hypes, tantalizes, shows all the character I can muster! So on Saturday I began to think 💭 but with a few stipulations…

1)The Angle MUST look downward

2) Every robot girl MUST fit into the image

3)It MUST be an image that both has an epic grandness to it, BUT also show the sexy undertones to hype the readers imagination for what is possible for this tale.

B)The first Concept [Image 3] [Image 4]

My first idea had all of the girls standing huddled together boobs pressed, reaching up towards loona with Drooling tongues and horny faces. At first I thought this idea was going to be it! But then I found many holes. I did not like it from a narrative perspective. “Why the heck are they so huddled, how crampt is this hole. The angle obscures too much/if done wrong can look like they’re cheering. “

The reference I was looking at was also not the ideal. I was searching for things like “people reaching up above view” which did give me angles certainly, but the “soul” of the action was limp. The people were not reaching with passion. Which I wanted at least one character to have!

After multiple attempts, I decided that this idea was built on a weak base, and to go back to square one

C)A New Idea!

On Monday it hit me, why not look for zombies, there must be great references of them reaching with “soul” (and there next meal). And indeed I did find pictures, but the angles were less than desirable. And still not hitting the mark

UNTIL! *drum roll*

And my dreams were answered. Tons of folks grabbing and reaching with intent. Angles galore for ideas to compose. This is when I transitioned my idea to then climbing out of the pit. Now with concept in mind, the next challenge was to compose characters to all fit

I started with getting Roxy’s pose down, needing her to be the anchor. Giving her pressed breasts, tongue out expression, and climbing posture to communicate the theme. For renamon and eevee, I wanted them climbing too, but with Roxy as my anchor, I felt like I could give them less blunt poses, and more seductive (accentuating) poses so long as they looked like they are attached to the wall

Diane and Krystal were my chance to show off more personality and individuality between the abilities of this robo group. With the idea becoming more and more solid, it was just a matter of finalizing their placement within the scene in a pleasing way. Asorting them into a spiral formation. Renamon, to Roxy, to eevee, to Diane, to Krystal. Leading the eye downward into the hole.

From here I will continue to refine the drawing adding more nuances, and then head into inking!
