You rub some of the dirt off and squint your eyes to make out the words.

//Planted in 1943. A rare mutated subspecies of clathrus archeri which was discovered near Haew Suwat Waterfall in Thailand. A sample was obtained and brought to America, but proved to be difficult to handle by less skilled horticulturalists. This specimen was turned over to the Marigold House of Curiosities in 1940. Dubbed "Ollie", it has thrived ever since due to the expert care and knowledge of the house owner Madame Moira Marigold.//

"Moira?" That's a name most people don't have anymore! You wonder if she is the grandmother of the current Madame? And this place used to be a house of curiosities? How on earth did it go from being a collection to a brothel? You read back over the plate again. Clathrus archeri? What on earth is that?

You lean forward over the railing to get a closer peek at the plant itself. It almost looks as if someone has left a cluster of huge eggs to lie in a nest! You stare in wonder at the sheer enormity of these things, each one nearly the size of a baby hippo! The outer membrane appears to be ivory white and thin. When you squint you can just manage to see the outline of something contained within.

The scent grows stronger as the rainwater gathers into droplets and slides down the protective layer. This is some kind of mushroom. But you've never heard of one that grows this big. At least not ones meant for eating. Is it poisonous? Maybe the Madame kept it as an oddity from the more reputable period of this houses history?

The wind starts to pick up and you hear a dull tears sound. Unable to resist, you reach forward and poke the outer layer, jumping back as a powdery puff of something escapes through a hole. "Oh crap!" You lean back in, hoping you didn't just do something to hurt this rare species!
