Alice Hi-Res 3D Model (MUST SEE)

Dear Insane Children,

The first phase of work on a 3D model for Alice is finished! Roman produced this turntable video of Alice's face and A-pose (body) along with still images of the same. The level of detail he's achieved is excellent. I am really impressed with his skill, speed, and quality. Great work!

All of this is based on the initial concept images we shared with you here on Patreon and ran through our Crowd Design Process

Very interesting to see these 2D concept images transformed into the 3D space!

What do you think?

The next delivery will be of Alice in the Ash Dress. Look forward to seeing that!

And once that's done, we'll insert the model into an environment. Exciting!

As usual, I'll reserve my comments and feedback for a later date.

Right now, I want to hear what YOU think! Drop your feedback and questions into the COMMENTS. We'll do a full review of this content and read your comments during the Live Stream next week.

Yay! Progress!

And, hey, THANK YOU. The Insane Children (that's YOU) are making this work possible. Without your trust, feedback, and support, none of this would exist!

Alice Hi-Res 3D Model (MUST SEE)

Comments

I'm late to the party, just wanted to say that it's great to see the first 3D render/model of Alice :) .

She looks awesome!!

Sarah McKeegan

I like the big eyes but maybe not as big. And l agree she looks older and less “cute”. I suggest creepy cute! 😉💕

She looks closer to 30 than 13... Her face is long and thin, devoid of baby fat. That's my criticism. The quality of the model is fantastic.

The Ash Dress is one of my favorite things you have done.

Stephanie Groth

As a headsup, this model is portraying Alice as a 13 year old. Because that's her age for this game, so sexual appeal is not being factored into it at all.

RedBreloom

One of the details in Alice madness returns hat I enjoyed was the Alice' strut. I diggedher hair styles especially when the game shifted to the exploration in the town. This model is nice, alothough I feel her eyes are a tad too big and take away form her sexual appeal. Moreso her arms seem slightly too long and this could be a problem when she swings to attack with a short blade.

Marty

I think she should look a little more youthful

I like it overall, but something isn’t working for me in the lower cheek/ chin area. Maybe mouth moved up and chin pointed more and lower cheeks thinner? Also hands are big but that’s not necessarily a criticism; I seem to recall her hands being big in amr as well. Love the hair and eyes and I think the body works well. Great job roman!

Legs seem a little long

It is of course amazing quality, but I really dislike the design, most of all, the huge eyes, which is a trend I loathe, and makes her look like a creepy insect. I'd love to be more positive, but I don't really connect to her.

Juan Romero

That hair! So pretty. Love the amount of detail. I'll reserve my thoughts on the body until I see the clothed version. Though I kind of wish you hadn't included the unclothed body in the video since it's not something we're going to see in-game. I get that it's a tech demo/WIP but...

Anna Lepper

I love it! I really like how her hair colour looks multi tonal, instead of a flat dark brown. The only thing I’d say is, her chest needs to be slightly larger (but not too much that she will look sexualised).

She looks older after the render. Maybe the chin? Too strong mandible? I can't point It exactly but, theres something that needs a bit of younger sweetnes. Other than that, very good job.

I think she looks great. I love the slightly broken doll feel she has as that's kind of how I imagine she feels about herself. Her chin is a smidge long but it doesn't bother me massively. I also love the way the top of her ears pokes through her hair, great detail

The face looks good, can argue about proportions body, but even if unrealistic, it's still a game Perhaps this is how Alice sees herself?

I have to agree with slycoop002 she looks odd to me. I like the face and her legs, and bum seem proportioned. She looks very thin but thats not a huge issue but her chest looks small compared to her hips. Her arms are either too skinny or too long or perhaps both. It seems to me perhaps its amplified as her head seems bigger. However it is amazing to see this come together. I cannot wait to get my hands on this game one day

First off... this is awesome. But, yes, the vertical proportions are quite different to Joey's version, I couldn't work out how to attach a picture here so I sent the comparison to you via the support at Mysterious address. I also think the hair could be fuller? at the moment the ears are coming through and it goes in a bit around the neck, which looks a little odd. Cant wait to see the updates on this ^_^

Catheryn Alice North

The level of work is superb here, as someone that did their degree in computer animation I am in envy :P I will slightly echo the comments on the face that her chin could use a slight bit more definition, and the body looks out of proportion pending the dress but of course it could all look great with the dress on so we will have to wait there. I also do agree that perhaps the texture work is setting a more photorealistic style when her proportions are charicatured to a slight degree much like the first two games and perhaps it is not in fitting with the current tone of everything else. Or to word it another way, her skin texture/the approach on the texture being so realistic when the rest of her design and that of everything else so far is a little more outlandish.. it doesn't sit quite right with me. And lastly I know it's a WIP so will probably change but her hair on the top of her head seams a little "thin" the light coming through it a little more than I would have expected. All WIP so 98% love it and well done so far :D

Kyle Ross

what you are seeing is lack of scale in the rendering, we are not seeing Alice in relation to other objects or other subjects.

I might have to disagree with some ppl about the facial features. As far as the face goes, I think they're actually pretty good save for the eyebrows. Those could be a little thinner... and possibly a thinner/slightly more pointed chin. Besides that I think the face is pretty good. Now my main gripe with this is her body proportions. I understand that with the dress these features wouldn't matter as much, but as of now with this model it strikes me as odd. I'm not sure if her hands and legs are too big/thick (lol) or her abdomen and arms are way too skinny. Makes me think of some kind of giant monster without the size. Not sure if the model needs to be like that to account for the dress but maybe those could be fixed a bit (personally leaning towards shrinking the hands and legs a bit rather than enlarging; this is a child after all) . Still an amazing WIP for a first render. Can't wait to see what changes occur.

She looks amazing!

Greetings from Canada, this initial design is fantastic kudos to the artist. I wish to add to previous comments about facial features, first off keep the eye Colour it suits Alice's character in this instance. The face shape looks a little like cartoon aliens you know the little grey men. the chin is too pointy. Remember Alice is a Hero not a Villain in this story, even if she is only saving herself a Hero nonetheless. I have an open suggestion for this skin texture, faded battle scars or a mixture of old and new to symbolize the internal battle that Alice has been waging while in wonderland.

I think this is lovely!!! I agree with other Insane Children who say the chin could be a bit smaller and to add slightly more youth to the model (although I am aware there is a stylized choice in that, she would suit a bit more softness and girlishness) HOWEVER I am aware this is a WIP and not yet final, and am curious to see how the model will develop! The artistic work is stunning and I'm super excited about the recent progress!

I think the model looks great! Thank you Roman! If this were the in-game model I’d be happy. The realistic style doesn’t really bother me. If it sticks throughout development, I think it could make the horror even more terrifying. It could also make the magical moments even more… wonderful? I agree with some people on her cheeks and chin. I feel like some area around her cheeks could be filled out or flattened and her chin could be sharper or raised up. Then again, I’m no expert and I could easily chop these things up to her being younger. I also think her hairline is a bit high, but maybe adding more hair there could help instead.

I still can't believe that after so many years this is happening! I am so hyped that I just want to jump up and down like a little kid! ❤😍❤

I agree with others that the chin looks a bit too long or big. Maybe shorten it just a bit.

missa8u

It’s very exciting to see the first iteration of the 3D render so soon! On a purely technical level I’m impressed with the work here. I can’t comment on the body since so much of what will make that look “right” will be when we see it in the dress and boots. I do have some thoughts on the face; I haven’t read anyone else’s comments but my initial gut response upon seeing her face was that it was unsettling and not in a good way. Perhaps it is the clash of the highly realistic details against such unrealistic proportions but it makes me uneasy to look at her. In profile and angles she looks fine, but head-on she needs some work. My thoughts: -The tip of her nose angles a touch too far down (most apparent in the three-quarters view) -Her head is too tall for the width of her shoulders -The ridge of her brow feels too heavy/strong at the outside edges of her face -The area of the eyes that include the tears ducts is too big, it does appear to be in scale for an eye of that size but it makes for such a large “opening” on the face -The dark lines that appear to indicate the edge of the orbital bone structure between the eye and the nose look to be misaligned with the eye itself, like the point ending in the tear ducts needs to rotate up by a few degrees Perhaps those changes, or others with a more artistic understanding of human design might suggest, would improve this model and I like forward to any changes…yet part of me thinks that even if all this were changed, the design itself looks too alien when rendered so realistically and maybe the answer is to stylize the details and not strive for such realism in details?

Would it maybe be possible to do the model in a different style? I don’t know if going for photo realism fits the series all that well. I’d like to see it done in sort of a painterly way, still looking like Joey’s art but 3 dimensional.

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

I say these things because I care, not to crap on the design, or the high quality work of the modeler. I also 100% understand this is WIP. However, eyes are too large and they are slanted downwards a little too much. I believe in her previous designs her inner tear ducts would be a touch higher. Looks like someone took the eyes and rotated them. Facial proportions look odd. The brow looks a little heavy? Nose appears a little short and the lips a little high on her face? I think both could be moved down just a touch. As for the appearance of her characters age, I"m a terrible judge of such things and perhaps it's just because it's in higher definition than the old games, or perhaps it's because it's so stylized, but I can't really visually pin down her age. Could be 13, could be 19. Now i can see why there was so much argument about the design of Alice on your last game.

truth_decay

wtf, my comment disappeared. :D

truth_decay

The definition is beautiful and the work is fantastic. However, I’m personally finding some weirdness and much of it is with her hair part while some of it is with her face. Something about the chin or maybe the width of the face. I can’t tell if I find the chin too big or if the space next to the eyes or cheeks could do with being wider across for proportion/youth sake, but it’s Something striking me odd. However it’s still Gorgeous.

Lauren Tina

THIS LOOKS INCREDIBLE!! I’m so so excited to see the amazing progress you’re making :) I play the March Hare in a bar-experience tea party here in Sydney Australia and I’m replaying through the first 2 games all over again. So excited to see more! ♥️

Sebastian

Absolutely love it, it's perfection!

Oh my madness I love it! Great work! So detailed!

Maybe I could seems a bad person with this comment; but I need to write it because I love Alice too :) I think that she is a little deformed in the sense that maybe the proportions of the face and the head are a little too much exaggerated. In particular I don’ t like the big chin (too mich long in the bottom, and the upper part of the head that in the concept is more pointed than flat in this way. In general I prefer the sense that the concept gives more than this version. And...I think that to resolve the age dilemma, maybe smooth a little the hard surfaces like the cheekbones could help a little :) anyway I love that way you are working until now, continue like so :) hope this comment helps x) bye!

Very nice work for an early prototype! She does indeed look a bit older than expected though (perhaps due to the skin texture), and rather on the skinny side (even if you assume she's clothed). Still, this is a great direction and I can't wait to see more!

She does look a little old but considering you have mentioned this is her perception of herself it makes sense she doesn't actually look how she would. That being said it looks great. I look forward to maybe getting to see it in some animations?

This looks so sick

NightHunter11

She looks like the perfect next-gen rendering of the original American McGee's Alice, but everyone else is right. She looks like the current 19-year-old Alice, not 13-year-old Alice. Still, considering how difficult it was to bring her to the PS3, I already think this Alice is more on model with her original conception than in Madness Returns.

I really love the detail and work that went into it. I wasn't sold on your description of Alice that you gave us in the last stream (if I'm not mistaken), but I actually really like the face although there is something about the lower part of the body that seems a bit off to me.

OK, well I just gave up and set the video to Public. And then had to re-insert the URL so that Patreon would stop pointing at the Private video. Sorry for all the confusion. But the video is now Public and the link here has been updated/repaired.

American McGee

Looks amazing, but I agree with some of the others that she doesn’t look younger.

Nicole E.

she looks good

This looks AWESOME ! I can't wait to see more! I love the style on this 😭😭😭

Nezumicon

This looks great!! I think the size of the eyes is just right btw. They're big, but in a cool semi-surrealist kind of way, not in a freakish or unpleasant kind of way 👍

I agree with some of the other comments I’ve seen. Face might be a tad too elongated. Maybe just squash it a bit

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

I love it but her cheeks seem maybe too defined it makes her look to be in her late teens.

I don't know exactly why or what is, but she doesn't look younger to me, specially with the hair. I'm not disliking the model, hold your breath. But something seems out of place. It doesn't look like young Alice, but someone who kinda looks like Alice. Maybe her face is too elongated? I don't know for sure. And the video is showing as private.

Priscila Nosoma

The detail is stunning! I love it!

PLEASE RELOAD THE PAGE. I HAD THE VIDEO SET TO PRIVATE BUT I'VE FIXED THAT SETTING. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE IT NOW. WHY AM I SCREAMING?!?!??!

American McGee

I love the rendering so far, but I agree with others she looks a bit old to be 13 at this point.

Death of Ink

I like the body and the hair, however, something about the shape of the lower part of her face and her eyes doesn't quite feel right to me... She looks more like a 16 or 17 year old rather than a 13 year old. What about adding a little "baby fat" to her cheeks and make her faceshape a bit wider, and make her eyes a tiny bit smaller, as the model looks realistic and textured, the big bug eyes appears cartoony to the other realistic aspects

Definitely not Adam Driver

I would love a doll / figurine of her 😍 they did an excellent job - incredible details.

Victoria Spady

Wasn’t expecting her to be so photorealistic. It’s a bit uncanny valley, but I think maybe I could get used to it. However, does anyone else feel like her forehead looks rather large or is it just me?

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

The model looks beautiful. Just like her sketches and drawings, gorgeous and really pays attention to detail 😍

Heartlock

OMG CAN WE GET DOLLS? (I do not typically type in caps but this was so exciting!!! 😸😸😸)

Denise Sury

I think this would be a good model for adult Alice, but not Alice at 13. I think her arms a little too small and the front view of her face seems a little off on the cheek area, but that may just be because we're going for an emaciated look. And yeah, the link is private!

Wendy Jaa

This is absolutely stunning!!! I love it!

Beautiful ❤🖤

I cant see the video but my goodness I'm loving the graphics 😍 absolutely brilliant. Definitely looks like a younger more freshly traumatized version of her. I'm so excited to what will be a part of this game... I'm crossing my fingers for many bosses 😭

YouTube link is private

Sarah Heist

Looks gorgeous, though the body still looks a little womanly for a 13 year old child.

Thanks for the update! It feels so creepy looking at her in a state of undress lol. Like seeing something behind closed doors. Looking forward to seeing her in the outfit!

Undertaker

Loving it so far, though is the YouTube video linked supposed to be private?

DitzyBat

She’s gorgeous!
