Cheshire Kitten - Design Update (V4)

Dear Insane Children,

Our Crowd Design process on the new Cheshire Kitten Plush Toy moves forward! Omri's sent over a Spec Sheet (version 4) with updates based on YOUR comments and feedback. Lots of great ideas contained in this update - many thanks to YOU!

This version is now with the factory (same group who made the White Rabbit Plush) and will be turned into a production sample within a few weeks.

Compared to the White Rabbit Plush, the Cheshire Kitten contains a lot more embroidery and custom design. It will also require the production of custom eyes. The result of all this extra detail should be a plush toy of excellent quality and character - but these elements won't come free.

It will be interesting to see how all of this impacts the production costs. Within a small %, those increases can be hidden within the retail cost. If there's a large increase in costs... then we'll have to discuss compromises.

But let's wait a little while and see what the factory sends back! Might be another Cheeto Monster! Might be a ready-to-produce masterpiece. My guess is that it'll be somewhere in the middle.

At this point, I think we can all reserve design feedback on the design sheet and wait for the production model to be delivered. Once we have that in hand I'll share pictures and we can resume the design feedback.

Btw, I really love this process! It's so much fun to design things in a group. I look forward not only to the updates from our design team but also to the feedback from you, the Insane Children in our Crowd Design Team. Thank you, for being a fun part of the process!

Alex sends over an updated version of the Cheshire Nylon Bag in which we'll send out the Cheshire Kittens. His design also reflects changes made based on your comments.

This version is, in my opinion, closer to a design we might call "final." What do you think?

The only thing I am not a fan of... is the AMG "American McGee Official Merchandise" element.

Several reasons for this. First, I am not one to wear other people's brands. Most of my t-shirts are plain, single color, and devoid of external brand markings. The exception I'll make is for "bold" art/symbol designs - but those also can't be too closely related to a brand or brand logo.

That being said, I don't mind a subtle "tag" here and there on my clothing or shoes. I just don't want to be a walking billboard. And I don't expect the people who carry or wear my stuff to be one either.

Second, it's confusing to have both the Mysterious brand and this new "AMG" brand on the same bag and on the same side of the bag. Reminds me of these shoes I see at the knockoff markets here in China...

So, Alex, this is a big "nope." Let's just keep the paw clean and free of branding! I'd suggest we remove the AMG branding as well as the Mysterious branding. For the Mysterious brand, we'll print tags and sew those into the bag on the inside. (Same comment for the Mysterious branding on both sides of the bag).

What do you think, Insane Children? Let us know your feedback in the comments below.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Cheshire Kitten - Design Update (V4)

Comments

Kitten looks amazing

Paul Ferris

Chesh looks amazing and I love the bag without the brands, of course. I wish the tattoos on his legs matched the original Alice; that way they aren’t exactly the same. I understand though, this would kick up the cost and some of his tribal is a bit complicated. I agree with everyone else on the claws. I think it would add a bit more “original” factor to the design. Plus it would be “Spooky” cute. If this is the design we end up with though, I would be truely happy with it though. I can’t wait to see what tier this is!

So exciting!!!!

The plush looks so much better, it really improved! Can't wait for it, the bag is great to, love the paw. I wouldn't mind the mysterious branding because the word itself fits for Cheshire as a description so it's not necessary a branding it can be both :)

Any idea which tier this plush will be under? And how much?

Amber Brown

I hope you're not going to do Chesh in those colors!!! Personally, I like the AMG 'brand' but would lose the text explaining it. I could almost see Chesh with an AMG tat like that. Bag is awesome, btw. I like the gray on black...shades of and all that...nothing about life, psychology, or Alice is black and white except some floor tiles and wallpaper...

I'm totally with you on "no visible branding" front. Big integrated logos will always put me off a thing, no matter how much I might support the creator. On the other hand, the psychedelic cheshire cat is right up my street 🐾 🤯

That bag is badass!! I frickin love that paw print!!! Kitteh! 🖤

I luv the bag! The iconic cheshire grin is spot on and the paw print on the other side just adds to the overall design

Sherrie Mora

I agree about removing the AMG branding from the paw .I think the bag would look better white on black . Do not like the tail would look better smooth with markings and a bushy end

Kitten looks great, excited to see what you get back when it's made up (I'm hoping for bright pink this time). I agree about removing the branding, but only because I like the pawprint clean with nothing in it.

That's our Chesh ^_^ I see the quote got changed a bit to fit more evenly on both sides ^_^ also... SUGGESTION: just a thought but I don't know if having the same pink denoting both the teeth fabric and the large stitching might be confusing for them?

Catheryn Alice North

He looks great, definitely feels like a final version to me! As for the bag, I agree with your views on the name branding. I love wearing video game merch with elements from the games on them, but merch for the studios or makers of the games? ehh... not so much. So maybe put the Alice: Asylum logo in the middle instead?

I am also kind of thinking of getting two of these dolls if I can and carefully opening up one of them to put a Cheshire cat sound board chip into it that's activated by squeezing a paw or something. Just a random saying from one of the previous games. :) He looks great and I can't wait to have one. <3

I'm actually against having a tag actually. They usually get ripped off anyway, especially on my shirts. I do appreciate when the stuff on the tag is printed on the inside of my shirts so that one day I don't forget what size it is and who made it. I once had a shirt where the tag was sewn on both sides to the inside of the shirt, the lower stitch was hidden as to not see it through the other side. Having such a tag would be a nice compromise. Even if there was a thin spot of Velcro to hold the tag down would be better. I just can't stand those tags flapping around. Maybe it's just me.

SUGGESTION: 1. Keep your name branding, no logo. people Should know who is responsible, USE your name. 2. +Tank top?. that kitty is terrible, terrible artist who made that, also should be orange.

Is it just me, or somebody else wishes that they will do the kitten in those red\blue\green\grey and yellow color now XD It would be hilarious at least.

Jessi St.

I agree with nixing the brand names and logos on the bags and stuff. I hate wearing brand tags too. Something kinda similar to the message on the rabbit’s bag would be cool, like it was found in the asylum or something or even just some of Cheshire’s quotes in the paw print instead of a logo. The plush looks awesome btw.

I like everything about this version of Chesh. As for the branding, one or the other I think would be ideal. Frankly, I don't mind sporting brand marks for the things I love, especially something as low-key as the Mysterious logo. Like a name on a good picture, I see a small logo as a signature and something that, if I like what I'm seeing, I can look for. The Chesh face side of the bag is perfect in my opinion.

I'm not really a person to wear brands, but boy would I rep Mysterious! I think we should definitely do away with AMG on the paw, perhaps putting the Asylum logo there instead. One other thing is that perhaps we should lighten the gray a little, as the design seems a little complex for two dark colors. Also, that picture of the conflicting shoe made my day! 😂

Claws! Claws! Claws!

I'm worried about the durability of a nylon bag. If it's not made well its going to just end up in a closet somewhere, or ruined after a bit of wear and tear. Feels like a lot of the design point is wasted if that ends up being the case. Idk, it's hard to say without feeling/seeing it first hand, I'm just finding it hard to care about the bag at all. I'm excited for the plush though!

Saucentric

Yeah, I don't like brands either.

I would prefer if it said mysterious instead of AMG

Markus

I love the new designs for the body of the Cheshire but I think the tail is still too long for a kitten and the eyes still too sinister, I preferred more almond shape but we’ll see how it turns out! Photos and actual production can be so different at times so can’t wait! As for the nylon bag I agree, I think it makes more sense to have the Alice logo instead of AMG there and have AMG on the bottom in a smaller font.

Angel Ellis

I honestly don’t mind the Mysterious logo being on the bag; in fact, I think it’d look great with only one of them but that single one being slightly bigger than they are now – possibly where the Alice Asylum logo is, and the AA logo can be put in the paw instead... When it comes to the checkerboard pattern (where the handles are) on the paw side, I think some vertical or horizontal scratch marks would be more fitting; and the pattern behind his ears could be outright removed – let Cheshire’s face design breathe. :) Anyway, great work, guys!... Also, I’m totally on board with the eyes and teeth being glow-in-the-dark! Excellent idea!

Love, love, love the kitty hope he comes out as good as he looks in the drawing. The bag is good, branding....just a little tag inside ( like the size tag on a plain T.Shirt ) if needed at all. Pricing can be tricky but I think most of us insane children would rather pay a bit more than go with an lesser product.... yes?

Looking forward to the first version plush from the factory, and I agree with keeping the paw logo plain. :)

Anna Lepper

Hello Plain-shirt Mcgee, I like what you like with the bag, but what about glowing eyes?

Agree entirely with your views on the AMG marker

Undertaker

I love the bag. Maybe have the Alice asylum logo on it instead ? The cat though, I really wished you would have gone with the claw detail, but I guess you guys decided to go with a plush toy version (and not a replica as a plush) of the Cheshire Cat making it less detailed.

art3mis

I see there’s writing on the bottom. I don’t mind that, plus it’s not intrusive. I am with American on the logos, however I do think the paw would look to bold without anything inside. Perhaps simply add ‘detail marks’ in the paw would fix this?

Can't wait for the Cheshire plush and the awesome bag to go with it!

Looking great so far! I definitely like that tail. Hopefully the fluffy isn't to fluffy. I can't wait to see the first prototype. That bag is perfect, a big yes! It's beautiful. I'm so excited for this Cheshi kitten! 😻 Will his eyes and grin glow? That would be amazing.

Looks awesome. I can agree with the sentiment of not wanting a branding, per se. But I do love the font logo that is on the paw. Maybe it could adorn a letterhead or a smaller card? I wouldn’t rule it out completely, but you are the creator, Good Sir!

Oh definitly liked his eyes better in this one! The tattoos on the back of his head looks good and I like this tail a lot better ^^

Definitely not Adam Driver

I adore it all even with the brand on it.

Can't wait!
