Still Crazy After All These Fears - Livestream Incoming!

Dear Insane Children,

Get ready for a LIVE STREAM over on YouTube! I've set the time for 10AM on Thursday, March 7th (Hong Kong Time). That's 6PM PST on March 6th for those of you in the US (West Coast).

You know the drill... hit THIS LINK to set a reminder over on YouTube. Hit the Reminder Bell. It'll remind you that YouTube's notification system is crap. So set an alarm on your dog. That'll probably work better.

WARNING: External Internet connections from China are still being attacked by The Great Firewall. We can't guarantee this stream won't get The Hammer ... but we'll just have to try and see. (Way to go, China... really inspiring digital creators to stick around...)

Have QUESTIONS or FEEDBACK for us? Leave those in the Comments below - and mark them as QUESTION or COMMENT so we can easily find and address them. Make Font Lord's life easy!

Fleshtacle Knight

Not to be confused with his porn industry cousin. Alex sends along an enemy concept with design notes on his attacks and method for defeating him. Lovely stuff! Reminds me a bit of the challenge arenas in Breath of the Wild - not at all a bad thing. I really enjoy fighting enemies who require engagement with the environment in order to defeat them.

What do you think of this design? Would you like to see more enemies designed in this fashion?

Omri says he's working on a glorious new poster illustration which is going to take some time to complete. If it's anything like "Welcome to the Asylum" I'm sure we'll all love it.

Speaking of "Welcome to the Asylum," we've made this the art print for February... meaning those of you who were at an eligible tier for that month will receive this in the mail.

Font Lord says, "Those of you waiting on surveys for art prints - fear not! They should be sent out next week." I think he's hoping to reduce the number of emails and comments on this topic - hint, hint ;)

Ashen Rabbit is taking shape. Not really sure this is the final name for the new studio... but we've yet to come up with something better. What do you think? Name ideas?

This is a page from the Work in Progress "Studio Pitch Document" we're currently working on. This document will be personalized for each of the large publisher/financiers we're talking to. This one is obviously pointed towards Amazon. No, that doesn't mean Amazon will end up being involved with the project in any way - we're still in the pitch phase. But they are one of several companies with whom we're engaged in discussions around a new Alice game (and a new studio).

We can take a quick peek at this document during the livestream tomorrow - and talk about the progress we're making on various fronts - Thai government, potential publishers, platforms, financiers, etc. Lots going on.

We did a poll recently regarding platforms and devices on which you play games. Again, I want to stress that we've made no decision on this sort of thing ... other than being committed to publishing across as many platforms as makes sense. I imagine that means we're going to target PC (and all that implies), Xbox, PS, and Switch. By the time we go to market these platforms will have a massive combined install base which should help ensure the widest possible launch. That's our goal.

An insane amount of my time lately has gone towards organization and planning for Pirate Jam 2019.

I know most of you aren't here for updates on my salty sea adventures...  So, I feel I must apologize. The event kicks off on March 29th and runs until April 7th. From March 24th to April 10th I'll be in Thailand overseeing everything.

Once the event is over you can expect things to go back to "normal" around here. Until then, please excuse anything that looks like less attention being paid to Alice: Asylum. There's still roughly the same amount of energy being spent on All The Things... it's mainly an issue of not having time left to write Patreon Updates regarding everything that's going on.

I wish there were more hours in the day! Or maybe I can train Lulu to type...

See you all tomorrow!

Have to say, I love the idea of the mimic! That's a very unique take on the trope as far as design. Very elegant execution. Since the idea of a morphing weapon was brought up again in the latest stream, I thought I'd share my idea on it. SUGGESTION: I see no reason we couldn't have both toys as weapons and a single, morphing weapon. Perhaps have the main arsenal be a collection of toys, but maybe have a secret, hidden weapon available to find in the game that requires experimentation and completion of significant challenges. Instead of it being the Vorpal Blade, perhaps it could be called something along the lines of the Shard of Imagination, but using a more eloquent and archaic word for the same concept, much like Hollow Yves's name. Having its fluid nature be tied to the concept of a flexible and creative aspect inherent to children would be neat. I mean, we all know Alice is EXTREMELY creative just by looking at Wonderland. If the shard doesn't have a unique moveset and set of forms, it could basically be a re-skin of all the ordinary weapons, maybe with enhanced effects or damage or even a challenge factor, by being less powerful.

The Fleshtacle Knight would be one exciting encounter, plus all of the other monstrosities awaiting.

I love everything shown in the video. All of the amazing new concepts, the narrative ideas inspiring you from observing them is always very nice to watch and hear. I like the name Ashen . Rabbit, I also love the logo representing the letter A from Ashen. I got on my mind the word 'Crissin . Rabbit', but thinking of names I think that Ashen doesn't sound as indie as Crissin. Crissin also reminds of Crimson, but Crissin is a word that has no meaning too. :D The idea about Amazon is great, but what's happening with EA, and to be honest although I understand the concerns of having a massive team, I think Spicy Horse should be on board again.

They might have thought of it, but I didn't. U smart cookie.

truth_decay

I love the idea/design of the Fleshtacle Knight! I knew it was from Alex when I saw the box. Beautiful! SUGGESTION: Well you probably already thought of it but I think it should look different in every level (different enemy, box and pastry design), and not just be a recolor. For example, the box could also be made out of carved ice, mirror, burnt wood planks, etc.

Chaussette

Haha, I meant Lepus Chaoticus

Ashen Rabbit not so very different from Spicy Horse. Ash n' Rabbit maybe, or something entirely new. Clockwork Orange already gone (and probably a tad obscure). Palace of Dabs? I dunno, not very good at this naming thing. Get Bent! Too obvious. Lupus Chaoticus

COMMENT: The knight concept sounds challenging and fun, would love to see more. Also, Ashen Rabbit is so unique, love it! Great to hear everything is coming along, nice and slow is the best way to build a foundation for anything. Hope Pirate Jam is a blast!!!

Angel Ellis

QUESTION: So Ashen Rabbits is what you want to call the game studio? What does that mean for Mysterious?

Wendy Jaa

I absolutely love the knight mechanic! Placing him in different areas could completely change the way player fights him, and getting an item for beating a tough enemy is always welcome.

RancorSnp

Knight looks good but the environmental thing... Those things easily become into gimmicks, repetitive chores that are fun the first time, meh the second and boring the third.

COMMENT: Something with 'Cinders' in the name would be neato. Ashen | Rabbit is still cool though :D

QUESTION: are you planning to develop the game for PC first, then port it to the other platforms or the development is planned to be simultaneous? the logo of Ashen Rabbit Studio is great, love it

In the post on which you're commenting it says: "Font Lord says, "Those of you waiting on surveys for art prints - fear not! They should be sent out next week." I think he's hoping to reduce the number of emails and comments on this topic - hint, hint ;)" These things get handled separately and through different channels. Everything takes time. There should be notices going out next week.

American McGee

Hi, I just commented over on Instagram about the Chaos necklace and art print. I pledged $75 when the rabbit was released so I could get the necklace and the print as well. I got confirmation that the rabbit was shipped, and I also specified the necklace I wanted a couple of weeks ago. I just wondered when I should expect to hear about that. Cheers!

Mads

Quite interesting enemy. Especially method for defeating him. Hope we'll have another enemies with uncommon defeat methods for different gameplay. And "Ashed Rabbit" isn't bad. We could follow this rabbit (=])

I really love the Knight. Its design is beautifully done and I like the idea of using your environment to help defeat it. Love, love the art print and can't wait to see what the final creation looks like.

ASHEN RABBIT I LOVE IT!!! AND BOXY NIGHT AWESOEM!

Ashen Rabbit sounds amazing! Love the print too

Yay I can't wait!!! Also the print is lovely. Ashen Rabbit is a really awesome name.

Wonderful news.
