From The Desk of Nerd³ - August 2025 Edition

Boundless is dead.

No, not Unbound. They died already back in March. Boundless, the shuffling corpse of my publisher Unbound, also died this month. I discovered this through a group chat, on my day off, and had to speed into work to recover as much as I could before the doors were finally shuttered at 4:30pm that same day. I was never sent an official statement on the closure.

I’m not surprised, a publishing company that pisses off its authors doesn’t have a huge chance at survival, yet I am once again put into a worse situation. As of right now, a distribution company has 5,343 copies of The Paradox Paradox, 5,062 of which are backer copies. Currently, although I’m hoping to resolve this soon, they will not release these books to me, despite them being my legal property. I believe this is due to a brand-new set of administrators that have turned up, because that's what everyone needs in their life. Having to deal with two separate bankruptcy administrators.

When I do get the books released, whenever that is, I need somewhere for them to go. I’m in conversations with distributors at the moment, but it’s hard to organise without knowing if/when I’ll have the books delivered. Also, I literally cannot afford to ship them. Unbounds pricing estimate for shipping was £13,000. Today, I performed my own calculations, and it’s looking closer to £38,000. I don’t exactly have that lying around, especially since I was recently not paid for five entire years of work.

So currently there are two plans. Either I crowdfund this amount of money and pray I hit the goal, or I find a distributor that can contact everyone and ask for their shipping costs individually. It sucks that you'll have to pay a little more, but that’s the best I can do to actually get the books into your hands.

Now, this is the point in the post where I have had to select all and hit delete about 10 times this past month. Every time I seem to be on a path, it’s shuttered. Every avenue suddenly dead-ends. Today the UK suspended post to the USA, so the plan I was setting up to distribute the books without storage won’t work, and I may need to find long term storage for some of these books... without it costing me anything. Fuck, right now I don’t even know if these signed copies are actually signed. Yeah, I sent Boundless the signed bookplates, but did they make it into the books, or are they just in a box, on a shelf, stuck forever in an abandoned London office? I literally don't know.

And then, when this is all finally all over, I can start looking for a publisher for this book. Or I’ll self-publish. Or I’ll get an agent who can deal with all this shit for me. 5 – 15% of fuck all is a fair price to pay to never receive another ChatGPT email response.

Still, I do love The Paradox Paradox. It’s everything I wanted it to be and more. The feedback so far has been fantastic, and it seems to be connecting with the people I hoped it would. One day, despite the best efforts of my happily dead publisher, I hope you can all read it.
