Not awful for my first time ever drawing a medieval village, I don't think. Hopefully I'll get better with more practice, though.

I'm rather happy with that bottom spread of Étan making his way down the street. It's nothing incredibly fancy, and I'm certainly not the first person to utilize the technique, but it's always fun doing a character stretched out through moments in time in a single panel.

Beyond that, the only thing I can really think to mention in regards to this page are Easter eggs. The first of which is the name of the tavern, "McNabb's." Way back in high school, a dear friend of mine--who is a writer--suggested that we collaborate on a comic that he would script and I could draw. We didn't make it terribly far, but I did draw the first scene which took place in a tavern run by a man named "McNabb." It seemed rather fitting to start this new adventure off from the "same place" my very first real attempt at comics did. Thankfully, my friend was gracious enough to let me use the name. After all, it was his story idea. I didn't want to take it without asking.

The second Easter egg is unfortunately now a more somber one. I tend to draft friends and family into my comics the way most artists do, and on the left hand side of the first panel you'll see Tim Sale and his partner, Suzie. As you may know, Tim passed away a few months back, so now this light-hearted cameo weighs a little heavier. However, I'm glad he saw it while he was still with us. I'm rather disappointed that I'll never get a pin-up or variant cover for Forward drawn by him now. I was really excited about that prospect, though of course I'd much rather simply have my friend back.

I think that does it for this page.

Talk to you next week.

I’m so glad you pointed out Tim’s inclusion, Yale. I’d never have realized it, but now I can’t not see it.

I remember when Tim bought his first JL8 strips from you.
