Boy (no pun intended), I'm not really sure where to start with this one.
I appreciate that most readers probably really enjoy Bruce's schpiel here, but in hindsight, I'm not the biggest fan. I think the spirit of it works, but if I were to write it now, I think it would "sound" significantly different. I can't quite put my finger on how to describe my issue with it, other than maybe saying it's just a little too hammy.
Truthfully--and this is hypothetical, because I don't actually remember--there's a very real chance that this is a strip where I had the punchline ("Green Nightlight") and was just groping in the dark for a way to get there, and this is the best I could come up with.
The "Green Nightlight" joke is a good joke, though, so it balances out, I suppose.
