A New Year's Update.

Hello, everyone!

Good to see you here in the New Year. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. I just wanted to take a minute to go over a couple things as I begin returning to work in earnest.

TL;DR:

-I'm going to spend January trying to earn enough money to let me focus solely on making comics for the next few months.

-January is going to be spent working on commissions, so no new comic updates

-I'll be hosting the second annual YaleCon the weekend of Jan. 14-16th, drawing commissions live and having discounts in my online store.

2022 is the year I plan to fully debut Forward, The Horizon, but issue one still has a ways to go. The dream would be to have enough money in the bank to know the next 3-6 months are secured, and I can just direct all my creative energy towards finishing FTH #1 and getting another update or two of JL8 out into the wild. I think my best bet towards achieving this is to take January as an earn-hard month, focusing solely on paying work, to build up some savings that will float me going forward. Ideally, Patreon would be enough--and I cannot thank those of you here enough for your support--but what I earn from it currently doesn't quite cover all my monthly bills. So I'll be working on commissions and hosting a "convention" to help.

I've got quite a few commissions still in my queue, and I've found that taking a week out of every month to work on them just torpedoes the momentum I have while working on comics. I can probably get back to a more manageable schedule with them when I get back to a more reasonable number, but as it stands, the list is a bit unwieldy. Taking the time to clear it out will both put money in my pocket while also freeing up time to work strictly on comics, rather than juggling the two.

YaleCon will be returning, as promised, and will be largely unchanged. It'll be a three-day gauntlet of live commission drawing, along with discounts in my online store and maybe some Q+A style programming. Last year went really well, both financially and in sheer fun factor, so I'm really looking forward to giving it another shot. I'll open up early-bird commission slots some time this week, so keep an eye out for that. It may seem kind of strange, adding more commissions to my workload, but this one is largely a financial decision. If I can earn big at YaleCon, it just means that many more weeks/months I can go focusing strictly on Forward, The Horizon and JL8, uninterrupted.

That covers pretty much everything for the month of January. The rest of the year can really just be boiled down to "launch Forward, The Horizon and continue working on JL8." Nothing terribly fancy, but maybe I'll have more to say about that stuff when the time comes.

Thanks for reading, and I'll talk to you soon!

-Yale
