Psu: OH I FORGOT ABOUT THIS PAGE.
Psu: I THOUGHT I WAS COMING TO THE COMMENTARY TO FORGET MY TROUBLES.
Gunwild: Normally I'm not huge on what's surely a single image like the first three panels being broken up by panel borders. I feel like larger images can show progression just as well. But this one feeds into the next panel's imagery nicely.
Psu: Mhmmm....... well in retrospect I suppose I could've done without dividing the top panel into three. But the second panel is a lot of stuff that I like, like using the door frame to create a panel within a panel. And the left hand side of it getting to say a lot about how distant her friends feel at this moment. If you want a whole discussion about how people can divide a frame by using objects in a shot, you can do worse than watching an video on the filming of the movie Parasite (2019). I would say I've been doing that kind of thing a lot throughout my career before watching Parasite but wow that movie took it to another level. Actually, lemme just go find the video I'm talking about...
Here, this might be the one. Anyway, spoilers for the movie Parasite.
.... That got off on a tangent. Anyway. How'd you picture this scene when you wrote it, gun?
Gunwild: According to my research, the script called for three panels of the crew sitting at a table enjoying stuff as described here (I called for a peanut bowl for Theira to tip back, but it's space). Basically you combined them in this way. Then the fourth is about as described, though you thought of the reflection and the door creating the vertical line, there.
Psu: Mhm... your version might've been better but I tried to be super clever. I like to think that worked better in the next panel. But eh, that was a different me making those art decisions at that time I guess. Easy to second guess yourself after a lot of time.
Gunwild: Don't worry about it, I like how it worked out. Also that bowl of green reminds me, I had a burrito with some nice guacamole in it today, outta this world, really helped me enjoy the spice instead of fighting it, you know?
Psu: Is it impolite to get Guacamole before the entire party is at the table? Do... do these kinds of diners have guac on order? I guess it's a space diner and they can have anything really...
Gunwild: I have no idea about that etiquette, frankly I'm still mad restaurants all don't just bring me food the instant it's ready and then back out of my way.
Psu: It's a whole thing, you don't want to be stuck at the table with no food if everyone else got theirs first so everything has to somehow come out at the same time. It's frankly a lot of magic. But then it turns out the person you were waiting for this whole time was just coming to tell you she was leaving...
Gunwild: Hey she stays for some sitting! Honestly she's lucky this organization doesn't immediately heap shame on folks who resign, that's a jerk move but it happens. But y'know they're all nice people on her crew.
Psu: I feel like we've seen a LOT of organizations pull some dick moves in the last few years in the name of downsizing. At least Maddy gets to tell her crew on her own terms.
Gunwild: Yeah, probably why she kinda had to do it in person! Even in the super-connected space-future...
