Page Commentary No. 301

Gunwild: Sometimes it's no bad thing for people to remind you to feel wanted. Hey, this page is tall...

Psu: It is kinda tall isn't it... but we've done double height pages once before. Or was that after this page? It's the one with Nimoo and a bag of peas. Double Height pages are good when we agreed it would be better to NOT split a moment across a week or more. Having this happen altogether was probably the best way to do it. Though it might make printing it as a book a real pain...

Gunwild: That also featured an extra-length special! Yeah we'll have to deal with that printing thing when we come to it... anyway I don't know if this hit for many fans, and I wasn't even a big reader of them, but Tom Swift is this science fiction adventure kids' book character created in 1910. It felt like kind of a fun thing to use as a point of reference for these science fiction adventure kids. Very nostalgic for a lot of people... and conveniently public domain!

Psu: Handy that. But I remember we talked a bit about how to end this little story with another more hopeful note. The last page was nice but it was good to give Nisa something to look forward to. And maybe she can make new friends out there as well.

Gunwild: Yes, facing the unknown (even if it's just not being sure what you're gonna be like as a grown-up) is tough. That's why I stay home... well anyway, normally I don't like the day being saved by a convenient, expensive gift. But we thought the idea of Cassiopeia giving the older kids a bunch of things to still do with Ashley was sweet enough to allow for it.

Psu: Cassiopeia is a woman of many things and some of those things she can give away! As long as they aren't like... military grade space lasers. She definitely would've wanted to celebrate Ashley's adoption, though I have to wonder what her new parents think about Ashley's pantsless auntie.

Gunwild: Well, they DID move to a town named after her...

Psu: Maybe Cassiopeia visits the town every year like their own santa claus... Bringing peas on Earth.

Gunwild: Callbacks! We do 'em.

Psu: You heard em, call your friends back even if you move away with a new family.

I would be conflicted about accepting gifts from a galactic criminal. >_<;;

Dragonaur

I suppose each was very intentionally made for an audience living in the era it was made for!

I read a few of the Tom Swift Jr. books (Tom Swift's son) when I was a kid. Never read the originals, but I've heard people complain that the originals were much better.
