Record of the Memory-Carver Verhueru, Planet Kolchor
The name which our young-sprouted fear most is that of Paola Feti.
She is the specter with which they are warned against dangers real and imagined.
She came with the heat of a stellar ejection and razed our orbital shield.
We thought, at first, that this was simply to illustrate that they were not an impediment to her weaponry.
She told us that what was ours now belonged to her masters, and there would be no discussion on this point.
Our eldest who still speaks, half-petrified and very nearly at his final silence, told her what we know: that our roots run too deeply to find their beginnings, and that we do not possess this world; that it possesses us.
But she pointed at the horizon, at our burning defense stations, setting the sky ablaze as they plummeted into the sea.
They fell there, she explained, by her design; she and her ship of slayers-from-the-stars had forced them into the atmosphere in a particular manner, owing to their expertise with gravity.
Paola Feti left unsaid that they could as easily have fallen on the Growth Forests, from which spring our building materials and our nourishment and our young.
Without further demands she left, saying that agents of her masters would arrive and expect obedience.
For a long time every message sent or spoken among our people was about the events of that day.
When the Regency’s diplomats came to discuss terms and offer us gifts, we told them that they could lay claim to our world as they wished, and we would make no dispute.
So long as Paola Feti never returned to threaten us again.
NOTE: Ambassadors from the Office of State have slowly made progress in rehabilitating the Regency's reputation with the Kolchorans, who have no experience with governance in the traditional sense. However, the relationship may take centuries to mend in a meaningful way, severely delaying the timetable for integration.
NOTE 2: The Office of State's request that Commander Feti be barred from return to Kolchor proved unnecessary. She regarded the mission as having been a distraction from more pressing duties.
