Gunwild: Bowtie Beebot is good stuff. Also, nine panel grids are great but you can't ask for them all the time! Trust me!
Psu: Actually, if I remember correctly I think I was the one that asked for the nine panel grid here. And it probably wasn't just cause I was reading some Tom King comics where he does it all the time.
Gunwild: It's a consistent way to achieve this much intercutting on a single page, so we indulged in one.
Psu: I would say it calls attention to itself. I think Scott McCloud called it non sequitor transitions, in his book "Understanding Comics." The panels don't have a lot to do with each other, but drastically cutting away like this calls attention to itself. It also highlights the thread of dialog we gave to Kettering. The narration ties all the panels together to create a cohesive whole, and the reader pulls them all together as they read it. And beyond that, we're literally calling together images from throughout the comic.
Gunwild: I bet it would be hard to clink glasses if the other glass was super giant...
Psu: I'm sure the Doggo President has had to clink glasses with other species before. He knows how to handle it.
Gunwild: I wanna say, thanks for making sure Cassiopeia's doing one of your trademark-for-her tongue-bleps in panel 3, because she just did something seriously competent and cool. And we have to keep her silly!
Psu: She might be silly but she's also fairly thoughtful. Or at least optimistic. I guess she thought if things went well, the two of them could share a glass of soda and talk like best friendsies. But I guess Maddy wanted to cut to the point of this.
Gunwild: Cut to the heart of the matter, etc. I am glad we get to see that Maddy really is a better fighter than Cassiopeia... especially now that she's less uh, rigid in her technique. There were just extenuating circumstances other times!
Psu: Lefyne is an excruciating circumstance. Anyway, great page, Gun.
Gunwild: NO, U
