Psu: I didn't do any work on this page, thank you Punchy and Gunwild for picking up for my slack on this update!
Gunwild: I don't know how to write pulp action but I'm glad I was able to help Punchy's strong work fit on our website's display layout!
"Gunwild approached me in early 2019 to do a fill in page, and was open to any ideas I might have. I mentioned a love of newspaper strips, like Modesty Blaise and Travis Charest's Space Girl. Often one panel with a caption. Gunwild liked the idea, and came up with a caption and found some great examples from Hal Fosters and others newspaper work.
I set about doing the panel, I looked to fencing for some poses, and tried to frame the action at an angle to give it more pop. I was thinking of Yamato and Harlock and how breaches of spaceships are depicted in those shows.
I wanted to imply more of decks below and more pirates in quee waiting to fight, but both seemed to take away from the focus so I cropped them out. I also wanted someone shocked at the breach, as there is always that one henchmen in comic covers that is pointing or screaming at the scenario. It cracked me up that Austin Space would somehow be working on a pirate ship, and it seemed on brand without being distracting to use them.
the whole thing, from research, pencils, inks, colors took around 8 hours, was a blast to do, and I was happy and honored that I could contribute to a great strip."

Psu: I asked our friend to add some comments on the making of the page, and he even included some process shots of the blocking. Go give his work a follow on Artstation if you're so inclined. Also check out their comic on Webtoons.
