Page Commentary No. 246

Psu: People got upset with this...

Brellom: Yeah? Well, this is one of my favourite pieces of art that I have ever worked on. That first panel looks so cool.

Psu: It's a really good page too. I think we got to do a lot of cool things here that are unique to our setting. Like Zeke firing super fast all in the same panel. And then... being a cyborg... just standing there. It's such a dark and sad image. You can feel the camera move slowly to him. The coloring and the lighting help with that slow realization as you just see that dark line dripping down.

Gunwild: If you do say so yourself. But nah it's too effective, I feel bad, even though we talked all about what we were gonna do ahead of time. And also we're in total control of what goes on the page!

Psu: I'm not quite sure how I decided it'd be pajamas lady who gets the shot off, but I knew all I needed to do was show her gun NOT getting blasted so she's just carefully taking aim.

Brellom: When you play with no armor, you learn to be a lot more careful in combat. Just like in Halo on Legendary!

Gunwild: I feel like that's more continuity than I wrote into the script, Psu. Subconsciously, I think of Zeke as living in a Western, so not actually seeing the one with your name on it (or it not actually mattering which one of a posse hit you), that's classic Western film stuff. As is getting shot after you do a brave cool guy thing.

Psu: It was a very cool guy hero thing. Meanwhile, I think one of my favorite things in this entire comic, is just how Peia's "Zekey" is just a tiny word balloon against a black background. We're doing that "two panels in a panel" thing again. And the Panel where Zeke is standing wounded is just so heavy man...

Gunwild: Wait until we have a character killed off for real to usher in a high-stakes act break!

Psu: It's gonna be Eyebot. This was a chance for a truly noble sacrifice by eyebot. Who would you kill, off Brell? No wait. Maybe don't answer that. You always answer too seriously or not seriously enough with a question we don't want answered.

Psu: Oh ya know what? We doomed Zeke earlier in the comic. I'm pretty sure he said he loved Cassiopeia's butt or something. And if someone says they love someone in a heist movie, EARLY in the movie they're kiiiiinda in trouble.

Gunwild: Man, we're harsh and prudish, it turns out.

Brellom: Except for me. But based on previous renderings of Dr. Botz, that's exceptionally clear.

Psu: We don't usually go so dark in our comic, but I guess webcomics always take a dark turn sometime around this point right? I think it's maybe part of how we had Cassiopeia really thinking about leading a peaceful life, just a few issues before this one. But I don't think this is the comic where we really leave our readers with a tragic death.
