Gunwild: This is lovely art and it totally suits Cassiopeia to get ahead of herself in the pursuit of fun. But I 100% only wrote the page for the 'pretty face' joke. If you don't take the chance to make that comment about a talking head with no body, you're gambling that another chance will come along soon.
Psu: This was probably the funnest page of the entire chapter. Okay, I'm probably gonna say that a couple times. But this was the one where we really just told the audience what kind of story we were in for. And this motif would appear again in a couple places. I forget... when did we have this idea? Like I know we realized this plot was gonna be a heist movie. But when did we think, "okay but Cassiopeia would totally talk about it like it was a fun movie."
Gunwild: I mean we know that her planning ability is surprisingly complex, but it usually starts by asking herself what would be "awesome" to do. Or something similar.
Psu: I think you just described us. We do that. Like every time. "Wouldn't it be awesome if we had a space comic but the hero didn't wear pants?"
Gunwild: Well yeah, speculative fiction is all "How can I tell a story in which awesome stuff happens?" But I don't wanna be the kinda guy who compares anything and everything to his creative process in the commentary... speaking of which, you just watched some Simpsons episode commentaries recently. Learn any cool techniques from the pros?
Psu: That writers have a hard time answering questions about "who wrote that joke?" because usually once it gets into the room it's the whole team's joke? I should mention some of the inspirations on this page. All the panels were supposed to be like something out of a movie or a show or something. And I think Cassiopeia's "The Driver" panel should be obvious for anyone whose seen the movie Baby Driver. I think I had just watched it the week I was drawing this one... Penny is actually a lot like Oracle from the Batman comics. That reference is kinda close to my heart, if you think about where we get Minx from. And I believe Zeke is just wearing a favorite outfit of mine in Red Dead Redemption. The first game, not the second game. And uh... I guess "The Pretty Face" panel is from "The Brain That Wouldn't Die"
Gunwild: Or "The Head That Wouldn't Die," Because that is a low-budget living head sci-fi horror flick from the 60s where the grainy old film print has more than one title on it. Nobody bothered to correct that. So you KNOW it's good.
Psu: I think I have it on DVD somewhere but I never sat down to watch it. Was it on an MST3k at one point?
Psu: I'm okay with that.
