Psu: It's important to enjoy what you do.
Gunwild: If I could throw things and make swirly lines like that in real life, I'd probably love it too much to ever stop.
Psu: Could leave a mess though. This sword fighting doesn't seem very realistic. But I'm glad that I did just enough to make it seem like the sword is being flung in panel 5. Thankfully Kamsi and Vernon are giving us the play by play which helps in comic book action scenes a lot.
Gunwild: Yeah... why show when you can tell, I always say!
Psu: I honestly have a lot of comments about that subject that could fill an essay on comic theory. But I think we usually spend this time on some goofy banter that distracts people from our real goal. Like how Maddy over here is getting on Feti's nerves so she can take the win.
Gunwild: Well, you know, she's not overly focused on the win now, and stuff... it's easier to move when you don't put the weight of the world on your own shoulders, and all that! Plus I like how she's making the best of being shorter than Feti, whose sexy but impractical heels are now a liability.
Psu: They're sword fighting heels, they're made for combat! I did talk to another friend recently about how... when you first get into something it's all fun and play and everything is just possibilities. But once you get a certain level of expertise, you start forming goals in your mind. But you're having trouble getting to those goals. Now everything that was made of opportunity, is now an obstacle. I like to think Maddy here, capturing some of that spirit of fun, helps her see everything as a new opportunity once more.
Gunwild: I've been cleaning up my workspace, and every once in a while I find a very old piece of writing that I don't remember doing... but often I think they're pretty good. Like the person who wrote them was clearly having fun. Which, actually, is how I feel reading a lot of Cassiopeia Quinn, so, that's a good sign, right?
Psu: It's also a lot of work, but it's also quite fun to go back and check things out and see how far we've come along. And I think, this page in particular is a big turning point for one of our heroes. She's kiiiinda channeling Cassiopeia a bit, isn't she?
Gunwild: Yep. Not to get up my own butt, but I think that the Hero's Journey template (or one of the much-simplified versions of it favored by modern hacks like me) gets modified when you have deuteragonists like Maddy and Peia, who are clearly obstacles to each other. If they're going to have character arcs, they have to learn to adapt to each other how to overcome each other. But they also have to learn something to fulfill the arc. So, becoming a little more alike in good ways only makes sense.
Psu: Speaking of learning from your partners, I'm gonna go google deuteragonist.
Gunwild: Sure thing, duder.
