The simulation proves the reality. AI makes just as arbitrary decisions as their parents. The real fallacy is that we attribute such weight to things such as "favorites" or "identity" as objectively mattering, when it simply exists purely in the construct of our mind. It can still matter... A LOT, even, in the human context. Which means these constructs do matter to individuals and even communities. (Controversial but see: Religion.) Our context for reality, preference, and worldview shape our beliefs and our beliefs shape our actions. Since the only thing we can even directly perceive is the human context, there is no escape. (Sometimes, possibly, you can borrow a few choice plant's context, perhaps) However, there is another context... out there. Cosmic context. Lovecraft knew.
