Gunwild: Don't worry, she could see all the stuff she was about to shoot and considered it acceptable collateral damage.

Psu: I think we got compliments on Theira's behavior here. She voices some concern but follows orders pretty quickly. It's neat how it stops being a game when she sees who's still on the shuttle, which is a big change from her bravado in the previous panel.

Gunwild: You and I actually had a looong argument about her shooting or not. I was for it because we can't have all and sundry disobeying orders willy-nilly without consequences.

Psu: Yeah, you were definitely on the right here. But I think it was useful to illustrate that, even for a short moment. And Theira never lost her moment of opportunity to act. If anything it could be read that she was still waiting for a better shot which came when all the stars aligned and she wouldn't hurt anyone important. Except for that nice looking dinner.

Gunwild: Looks like Roast Beast.

Psu: Visually, I enjoyed the illustration of the laser here, in that it's one of the few moments I can think of that illustrates just how fast a laser is. No one can really react to the laser. The laser has gone from the starting point to its terminus in virtually zero time flat. The only concession to time moving are the slight explosons or particle effects of things breaking. So this would probably be just a fraction of a moment right after firing.

Gunwild: I think that kind of goes with the advice people give about drawing most comic action, where you don't wanna draw the impact, since that's hard to depict in a still. You want just after the hit.

Psu: Right, without the small explosion it'd just be a straight line. But to illustrate just how fast it was, no one can react to the laser. The girl at the slot machine is reacting to the slots almost getting all 7! And Kettering was already blocking his eyes before firing.

Gunwild: I'm also glad that we didn't make Theira miss. Being defined by being a good shot is not as fun if you miss all the time for story reasons!

The whole "no time to react" concept reminds me a lot of Randall Munroe's description of what would happen if baseball accelerated to 90% the speed of light immedaitely after leaving the pitcher's hand: https://what-if.xkcd.com/1/ Also, in a world full of slow-enough-to-dodge scifi "lasers", I'd like to take the time to compliment you on featuring one that actually moves at light speed.

Oops! Good catch, the file ate my actual comment and replaced it with one of Psu's. Fixed now.

Something's weird with the commentary, Psu and Gun say the same thing about the laser?
