Page Commentary No. 77

Gunwild: Surprises give life its flavor!

Psu: I drew that in a few minutes but I believe at the time I was really really itching for a break. So we figured a sketch update like this would suffice. I feel that it's so clearly a sketch helps it get away with not being that cleanly drawn. On the plus side, it's pretty cute. And nearly 100% canon.

Gunwild: Ice cream is Cassiopeia's front company, we established that. We may yet tell a short story centering around it!

Psu: We've had a few ideas. Meanwhile I'm starting to think of things I can do with that logo. Like the space inside the big Q could be a window into the flavoring. Or the little dash on the Q could be replaced with a spoon. It was fun coming up with these flavor ideas but I think we'd get into a small spot of trouble with the first one there.

Gunwild: True. Ya know, I had some Stranger Things themed ice creams recently, but they all had ways of skirting copyright, of course - I think the one I liked most was "Mornings Are for Coffee and Contemplation." Surely there's a way to do that with a Metroidy ice cream name!

Psu: Ya know... I'll admit to this. I didn't really think this far ahead but Metroids appear as flavorings and snacks throughout a LOT of the comic.

Gunwild: Well, maybe after years of viewing them as a threat to galactic peace, it was finally discovered that they're delicious.

Psu: They look like little minty jellies.

Gunwild: I know there's black pepper ice cream, but I've never tried it. Would you try paprika?

Psu: I'd probably give it a taste then realize I don't like it. I don't think I've ever really had a savory or spicy ice cream though. I find the idea weird but I'll give it a shot.

Gunwild: Cinnamon ice cream is usually spicy, and I like that...

Psu: On another note, I know I've made the suggestion once that Cassiopeia uses a Black Hole Bomb to escape.

Gunwild: Wow, possible spoilers!

Psu: Well... we could maybe just call it a thing to look out for? Or a hint? A possible universe?

Gunwild: You're leading us down a Rocky Road...

Psu: Just trying not to leave this commentary too vanilla.

Gunwild: That's Hokey. Which I say because an internet search tells me there's an ice cream flavor in New Zealand called "Hokey Pokey" that's vanilla ice cream with lumps of honeycomb toffee in it.

Psu: ... that sounds delicious. Can we take our Patreon money and go on vacation to New Zealand?

Gunwild: Maybe if they've got a good comic convention for tax purposes!
