Gunwild: I wrote this, but you added the Vanaa in the various panels absorbing solid culture, which is what makes it. Well, actually what makes it is the AMAZING title, but that goes without saying.
Psu: That Vanaa is a spy!
Psu: He's gathering important intelligence!
Gunwild: He's learning how to rock on, chow down, bulk up, and bro out.
Psu: And also learning about the true meaning of the Holidays.
Gunwild: What are those things around the guys' necks? Bolos or ties or... is there some word I don't know?
Psu: Ya know, I'm not sure. I think they're like a cowboy thing. On the story telling front I remember at the time we didn't have fully developed characters for all of the crew. We all knew Russ would be pretty stiff. We had a broad generalization for Farring and Ison. Farring being a sort of older "adventurer" type out of pulp novels. But we hadn't really settled on what Theira or Kettering would be like.
Gunwild: Well, we knew Theira liked her guns and Kettlehead can computer computers, but those are more like skillsets. Well, not for Theira, that really is her main schtick...
Psu: But this was the first moment of their "bro" attitude and being big gamers. It made sense as they are apparently the youngest on the ship and both of them have jobs that actually can benefit from good gaming skills!
Gunwild: Hashtag squad goals.
Psu: Ya know, I really like these mini episodes that go along side the main story. We get to explore characters without the constraints of moving a specific plot along. We wouldn't know nearly as much about Kettering and Theira without them. In a way, it's something we can be jealous of comics that don't follow a singular story.
Gunwild: Doing a long continuous deal with how often we update cuts off a lot of opportunities for tangents, so it's good the audience lets us drop in asides like this.
Psu: And swapping back in for a longer story has been good to give our readers a sense of actual progression. We're still feeling out the balance with this but I think we're getting close to a pretty strong combination. As long as we keep the long stories short and the interludes impactful, we can keep giving our readers meaningful developments. And massive gains.
Gunwild: I can't grow a good mustache...
Psu: You'll never be noble.
