Gunwild: This is my favorite kind of page to write, because I didn't do anything. Well, I guess I came up with the name of the comic...
Psu: I think we can include some of our rambling about how casual this is, how we're just text chatting at 1AM over Skype. Which, by the way we'll have a hard time including our favorite Skype emojis unless you wanna add a descriptive word to them.
Gunwild: It seems only fair, considering we developed this comic because we stayed up late chatting over low-budget sci-fi films.
Psu: There's something about talking at 1-2 AM that leads to either the worst decisions or the best most important decisions of your life. And pretty much two years ago this was one of them.
Psu: Actually I guess its inception was three years now...
Gunwild: I think this cover was put together after the whole first comic had been drawn.
Psu: Yeah, it was definitely after because I knew much more about the characters and who they were after having spent so long working on the first issue. I'm sure we'll go over those details. But I forget, did you have any specific instructions for me before we started the cover?
Gunwild: I didn't, but at the time you had the idea that every cover would be a naked lady-character on one of these starfield-blanket-things. I don't think readers would have minded that. One of the comments on this said it was a "kick to the hormones." Which I think is meant positively?
Psu: I think I remember saying specifically I wanted to evoke the feel of those really tonally different ending credit illustrations to Outlaw Star but of course to still be in my own style. And it's probably worth mentioning that we did this whole first issue, cover included, not even thinking of it as a webcomic let alone to be on Hiveworks. So I felt very comfortable with a cover that would be an attention-getter on social media but might not have been totally representative of what our comic eventually became.
Psu: I know people commented on the fact that our comic's first page is a naked lady! But I wanted to reach that balance of sweet and cute and childish adventure what with the stuffed toy and the starry eyes.
Psu: Technically, I'm seeing how much I do differently now that I've had two years of working on this comic behind me. I'll probably say that a lot but over the next few pages there are tons of differences between what I'm doing now and what I did then. And I'm much better at catching non symmetrical eyes...
Gunwild: And you still want a chibi Maddy plush of your own.
Psu: I think at this point I'll settle for a Doggo Hero Worship Figure.
