Scary Melody is one of my favourite things to draw. As a survivor, I'm really interested in the perception of the Other in abusive relationships. Abusers often blame their victims for their abuse, which is bullshit, but I find it fascinating that that's often the case. As a victim in an abusive relationship, you can do literally everything right, and they will still find a way to demonise you.
So for that reason, I find it really cathartic to give Melody the Aesthetic of being a villain, even though she isn't. Zachary meanwhile, has the aesthetic of being a Sad Boy, but he's a monster. He's scared of her, because he's scared of himself. It's kind of complicated to explain and it's a bit reality-bending (which is one of the reasons it's been so hard to write!!!) but Monster Melody is a very fun concept to explore for me
