Deepening or diversity

And then there is a choice either to go deep, and this is 5 scenes for 2 characters, or vice versa, 2 scenes for each of the 5 characters. In other words, what would you like, more elaboration on the actions and motivation of already introduced characters, or the introduction of new ones? Maybe a balance?
