Infected Ruby (5e Template)
Added 2024-08-15 08:01:01 +0000 UTCA creature that has been infected by the Ruby Plague after one or more crabochons burrow under their skin. Infected Rubys have visible red gem-like protrusions from their body, including 1d3 crabochons which can emerge and be used to infect others.
Prerequisite
This affliction can infect any non-mindless creature.
Statistics
Infected creatures act normally unless called to action by the Lodesong, which can happen at any time. When called for, the creature must make a Wisdom saving throw vs. the Dominate spell, or be controlled for up to an hour. The DC of this save depends on the location of the crabochon that first infected the creature. Resisting the call of the Lodesong grants the creature immunity for 24 hours.

Torso: DC 20
Head: DC 25
Once infected, there is no known way to remove this template short of killing the creature.
CR Calculation
The Creature’s CR equals their base template, plus 1.
Comments
Technically, if a player gets infected they could choose any placement for aesthetics! I tried hard with this to make sure that the potential for infection didn't make a PC unplayable.
