Comic Preview: Starting Level

Hmm.  Putting these two together in a comic raises some questions.  Why are they both red-haired and blue-eyed?  Are they related?  How would that work, since one is a fire genasi and the other is a halfling?  Have they secretly been brothers the whole time or is it coincidence?  Is someone writing fanfic about how they were swapped at birth?

Check out handbookofheroes.com tomorrow for the full post and none of these answers.

Case in point, my current character used to be a powerful mage and assassin, at the bid of evil forces (brainwashed and crazy) but was betrayed, and murdered and returned to life over and over and over again as a method of torture before escaping, with a new lease on life and world view. Diminished in power from the physical and mental trauma. It helps that we are playing a mythic campaign using the kingdom building rules. So everyone has epic backstories

I love to have epic backstories, and reasons why my character isn’t so epic now. It’s helps wrap my head around the sometimes incredibly fast gains of power.

I... also have this issue with new characters--I get so excited to come up with a backstory that I go a little nuts.

A few months ago I started my first campaign as a player after DMing for a while. I just couldn't turn off the preparing-an-entire-campaign side of my brain. So I showed up to session 1 with EIGHT pages of various character details, family members/allies, and background details. Luckily we were starting at Lv. 5 and the I didn't claim to have slain any dragons so the DM let it slide

Myf

You can't ever trust 'em.
