Like hell Conjure Pony isn't a combat spell. I don't care if it's a 100 HP Dire Dickwolf or an augmented pony with its own Arcane Cutie Mark. That's still something the enemy has to blow resources to push through. You put that halfway between the party and the pouncing deathbeast and you've got at least one turn that the party fighter isn't being turned into tiger chow. No joke, Communal Mount is one of the best no-save spells to bog down a heavy hitter for a couple of rounds. Really easy to Quicken in the midgame, too.
