YESSS! I am SO happy you both enjoyed this movie! I saw it in theaters when I was a teen and it immediately became one of my favorites, one I can watch time and time again because it is just so *real*. It's like you're living on the ship with them. Unfortunately it was released the same year as Lord of the Rings: Return of the King as well as Pirates of the Caribbean (a silly and fantastical Disney movie about pirates on the open seas) so Master and Commander did not get nearly as much recognition as it deserved. Such a shame, because it was set up perfectly for a sequel that never came. Many people also found it 'boring' because the action wasn't constant, and I am thrilled that you appreciated all aspects of the film. Can't wait for you guys to resume requests because I have some more historically realistic movies to suggest :) Also, the joke about the weevils (small pest insects that destroy crops) was that the doctor chose the larger of the two, and the Captain comes back with "in the [Naval] Service, one must always choose the *lesser* of two weevils" which sounds like "choose the lesser of two evils," a principle that if you have to pick between two immoral options, go for the one that is less immoral.
