It was a pleasure to experience this series again with you both. Man, what a spectacular and revolutionary show! At the time of the show's release, officials from Russia were very upset and criticized this as a 'gross misrepresentation designed to make the USSR look bad' to Western audiences, and announced plans to make their own Chernobyl show to "set the record straight" as they see it (not sure if this is still in the works, though.) When Russia invaded Ukraine two years ago, they specifically targeted Chernobyl with missiles and damaged the containment building shown at the end here, also stirring up the irradiated land the USSR spent so much money and so many lives to reduce the danger. In the process, Russia's own troops sent to capture Chernobyl and the surrounding territory were (surprise!) not informed of the danger the land possessed, and many fell ill with radiation-related illnesses. Even to this day the message of this show hits hard: What is the cost of lies?
