The film is adapted from Dennis LeHane's crime novel of the same name. They had great source material to adapt to film. Eastwood , also composed the score to the film , which shows his strengths as a film maker . The film was runner-up in the Best Picture race of the 2003/2004 awards race. TLOTR: The Return Of The King was the favourite to win that season.
