He translated "Don't do this to me again" as if he's talking to his son like "Don't scare me like that again" typa thing. And "I hate you" he translated it as "I hate y'all" as if he's addressing the aliens and not God. I have a feeling it was intentional tho, since it might be considered highly blasphemous by muslim standards? I don't know.

To the point where he had to rationalize that his daughter was "spared" the pain of existence... and in order to hold on to that belief, one has to believe that existence, is pain. For if he tried to be optimistic or live happily, it would hurt him, knowing what his daughter missed out on.

It is a bit too maudlin for my tastes at times; the symbolism is a little bit too on the nose and obvious. But overall it's a good film, one of Shyamalan's better efforts. And yes, Mel Gibson is great in it, as usual. I liked your reference to True Detective and the similarities between Rust Cohle's cynism from losing a loved one in a tragic way and the crisis of faith experienced by Gibson's character in this movie. I do love True Detective Season 1, probably my favorite television series of all time. Great reaction, looking forward to the next one. I even love the input of your cat (he's very loud! :lol:)
