I reeeaaally wanna do an abridged production of Romeo and Juliet. I'm not sure it'll ever happen, but it's fun to think about! Some ideas:
- Romeo is a girl. Juliet is also a girl. They're gay. Paris is still a man, though.
- Mercution and Benvolio are gay too. They have a kiss scene during Mercutio's death.
- Modern AU (nebulously 90s/00s/'10s). No tech shown, sword fights are knife/fist fights.
- Juliet's clothes say "I'm a closeted queer, and my conservative parents chose my clothes."
- Romeo is an enthusiastic baby gay that falls for every girl she sees and flags in as many ways as possible.
- Mercutio is flagging a different hanky code every scene, but it's alway for the absolutely kinkiest shit.
- Romeo wears a certain flannel for the whole play up until the lark/nightingale scene, when she drapes it around Juliet's shoulders before she leaves. Juliet wears it until the end of the play.
