The Easter Party

“Come on, come on move it missy these party decorations aren’t going to finish themselves you know. No going to sleep until everything is done we won’t have any time to get anything done in the morning. I know you feel overworked but it was our turn this year to host the extended families Easter Party. You’re an adult now so you it’s your turn to pitch in and help get things organized. You’ve been so good up until now we just have to finish a few last minute details and get these decorations up and everything will be good to go. It hasn’t been our turn to host the gathering for years we normally have it at your Aunts but her renovations took longer than expected so it’s up to us to carry the torch this time. 

I can’t believe how fast time flies, it still feels not that long ago you were toddling around the living room in your diapers unable to sleep because you wanted to stay up and meet the Easter bunny. You always tried your hardest but would konk out before 9pm every year. Once you almost made it to 10 but as hard as you tried you still crashed out on the couch with your thumb in your mouth and a pair of pull ups wrapped around your bottom. I know you’ve graduated and you are my big grown up daughter but no matter what I still think of you as my little princess. Now let’s finish up these decorations so your nieces and nephews get to experience what you used to all those years ago.” 

“Hey what’s the matter sweetie, oh I see… Its ok that’s no reason to cry baby these things can happen to anyone you just had a bad night that’s all. One set of wet bed sheets doesn’t make you a baby this was probably just a freak once off thing. I did make you stay up late after all, I probably just put too much pressure on you to finish everything, and you did drink that last coffee rather close to when you went to bed. Shhhh, everything will be ok my darling daughter I’ll get you a change of bedding while you go and clean yourself up in the bathroom. Don’t worry about it I can handle it, you just get towel yourself off and get into some clean pyjamas, leave the wet ones on the bathroom floor and I’ll handle them. Now come on its late and you need to get as much sleep as you can its going to be a long day with an early start tomorrow.

There isn’t that much nicer you have some nice cosy sheets to climb back into now. What’s wrong? Why haven’t you put more pyjamas on, don’t you have any in your drawer? There should be some I did your laundry yesterday, oh… You’re worried you might have another accident, its ok… Hmmmm… Let me think of something, we don’t really have anything you can wear and the plastic sheet you used to use I threw away a long time ago when you stopped wetting the bed. I have an idea, it’s a bit unorthodox but we have plenty of towels and I have some safety pins in the cupboard. I can fashion you a make shift nappy and we can pin you in that for the rest of the night. It might leak a bit but we can use a few layers that should hopefully hold everything in. You would be ok with that? Alright baby, lie down on the bed and I will be right back, I promise everything is going to be ok.”

“Hey baby girl having fun, you look absolutely adorable you know. I’m so sorry for putting so much pressure on you this past week, I had no idea you weren’t ready to give up on the all the fun kiddie stuff yet. I think I tried to make you grow up to fast, but don’t worry you can take as much time as you need before you grow up, there’s no rush. Isn’t it incredible how your Auntie was able to find this cute Easter outfit for you to wear, as soon as she took my phone call last night she stayed up for a couple of hours to put together that adorable pair of plastic panties for you. I know it was all short notice so we still have to use the towels as diapers for you but at least now you don’t need to worry about springing any leaks. 

You had so much fun toddling around with your little friends looking for Easter eggs, even your cousins think you looked adorable. See, I told you know one would judge you, everyone knows how hard it is to grow up, no one is thinking any less of you because you aren’t ready to just yet. When the shops open up tomorrow we can head down and get some proper diapers for you. You seem to be enjoying the cloth kind so I think we can stick with those for now, you’re Aunt has offered to put together some more plastic panties for you so make sure you say thank you. Sorry baby, I know you’re wet but the other towels are still in the wash so you just gotta bear with being a little soggy bum for the time being. Soon we’ll have plenty of supplies to look after you, my special princess, mummy loves you so much.”
