Documentation vs fine Art Photography - Patreon Bouns

In this Video I have a look at the difference between Documentary Photography and Fine Art Photography. Their concepts and ideals give a great perspective and Photography in general. Especially at the process of photo editing. How much is needed? How much is good?

Hi Kevin, thank you. I think what is the "holy grail" is defined by your own needs and goals. I was surprised to learn that Annie Leibovitz said she isn't a technical photographer and doesn't know too much about depth of field and such things. She cares most about the result - which she still mostly does in camera. I'm not sure how true (or just humble) that statement of her is. But it shows an interesting perspecive on that the results matter more than all the theoretical knowledge one can have. So, what ever you feel should be done in camera or in post is the right ammount :)

Hi Olivio, another thought provoking video, thank you. I hadn't thought about in-camera technologies changing 'reality' on the fly. I suppose it goes back to what was in front of the camera when the shutter was pressed. Analogue film doesn't have the luxury of in-camera modifications although of course there are artistic choices with shutter speed, aperture and focus etc. I had always thought that getting it right in-camera was the holy grail but now I'm not so sure. Maybe it's shoot the photo for the editing stage! All the best Kevin
