Thank you all again for your continued patience! As promised, the weekly update videos will be coming soon. I’ve been using this time to figure out how to make them in a timely and consistent way, and I think I’ve found a good solution. Alongside that, I’ve been working on an update for Smol Kobold Garden, bringing much-needed features that should be out imminently.
Smol Kobold Garden Update
The first thing you’ll probably notice here is the terrain being way more cubular. This will allow for more intuitive editing and building on a grid in the future.
Other new features:
Controller support finally.
Better handheld support, especially on Steam Deck
Cloud saves to keep progress synced across PC and handhelds.
Achievements (currently just one: when hatching your first kobold (or any subsequent kobold if you haven’t got the achievement in an existing save.), but the framework for more achievements in the future.)
Music player can switch tracks on the fly and change switching track timings.
Content and Streaming Plans
I’ve found the task of making videos, even monthly, eventually starts to become full time work in itself. When it starts to take a week or more to get the video out, it starts to eat up at time that could be used to make content for the game itself. Which ironically means less content in the videos themselves.
So, I’ve decided to start streaming development.
I’ll be using my real voice (no AI or anything) and explain what I’m working on while answering any chat questions.
I wont be chasing a goal of becoming a streamer or making this my new career but rather a way to capture content I can later edit into 5–10 minute weekly highlight videos.
This should make it easier (and more consistent) for everyone to follow the game’s progress.
I’m still setting things up, but I hope to do a test stream soon.
Format will likely be 2–4 hours of development, followed by 1–2 hours of playing random games to wind down.
Things may change as I figure out what works best, but this feels like a strong starting point.
Personal Note
I’ll be honest, lately I’ve been pretty stressed about where and how to take both games in the future and it's led to a kind of "posting paralysis" these last few months. But I believe streaming will help break this cycle and get the ball rolling. I’m excited to get back to posting regular content again soon.
The vision is clearer now. When I close my eyes, I see the best kobold head-patting simulators to exist. There’s a narrow way through.
