We look at the Blur Layer Effect as a fast and easy way to make images dreamy.

Let's get started :)

Yes, you’re right. I forgot that I usually send it to a ‘new layer with mask’. It depends on how much an exact cut I need. Small imperfections in the land-sky border are not always critical. If I discover a glaring mistake I will cut it out again. This goes back to my self taught days of Photoshop. I never understood masks, so I avoided using them. Thanks to you, I see their power now but old habit die hard. ;-) Please note, I still don’t have a ‘Community Tab’.

Hi Greg, that sounds like a great way too. However it will be a destructive step, so if you find you missed some part you would need to start over, while in a mask you can just brush it in or out. For example in this tutorial, it looks it my mask should be a tiny bit bigger. ;)

Folks, I learned a new way to do this from Olivio’s latest tutorial. I’ve always done it differently. I select the sky, invert the selection, then refine it and send it to a new layer. This gives me a perfect cutout of the land and I drop the sky image in behind it. I find it simpler than working with masks.

Thank you, Bob. Yes, the steps are pretty similar. I was thinking if i should even do it, because it's so close. But since someone asked me and it's a different topic to search for, i thought why not. But your point is very appreciated too. I didn't think about that. I think i'm a bit too much concerned with bringing new stuff all the time, instead of building on the things we already established.

Olivio, I would like to see more sky replacement (day and night) tutorials. I realize that the steps are basically the same but each presentation has its own learning when you reveal a slightly different perspective on a step of completion. This is true on other concepts of trainings as well. Thx
