Behind the Scenes - Special Episode

Hello my Friends,

this is the first of my "Behind the Scenes" videos that are a exclusive reward to the 5$ Tier (and above) for my Patrons over on Patreon. It's meant as a preview to show you what they are about. This time it is all about developing your artistic eye and finding your artistic voice.

I hope this video is helpful and what you expected. Please give me feedback about it. :)

Behind the Scenes - Special Episode

Hi Kevin, thank you :) That's a good point you are making. Google Arts and Culture gives you the ability to look at art even when you have no musem close by. However the lectures you can find in a museum are better found on other pages - and i really should have pointed that out in my video. A good source for example is Khanacademy, which is totally free. You could start with this one here: https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/art-history-basics/tools-understanding-art You don't need to finish every video, have a look at what interests you. Even if they are talking about classic art, the knowledge they give you will help you analyse everything from movies to photography to design, because most of them are based on the same principles or are reactions to those principles. So the prupose of this is to have the tools to understand what is going on below the surface no matter if the result is doing art or just editing some photos for fun. :)

Hi Olivio, a very insightful first edition to the behind-the-scenes videos. I had no idea about what is going on below the surface of these pictures. I suppose I was trapped in the "Stuff your face" mode! This has certainly opened my eyes to the difference between a pretty picture and art. Thanks also for the reference to Google Arts and Culture, I will take a look. In terms of the approach, I quite like the analysis perspective and your deeper insights as to what is going on. Having said this, as a non-artist, I don't know that I could make these observations for myself without being guided. At the moment, I am not sure how to apply some of your observations to my work but I was interested about the themes of "inventing light and shadows". Up until now, my view was that pictures had to match reality - and light and shadow had to match accordingly. I look forward to your other behind-the-scenes videos! BTW, the 'fashion element' in the self portrait of the artist is a ribbon. ;)
