Chapter 486: Soul Echoes

The classified files on the desk scattered to the floor as her hands pressed against the table.

Processed and unprocessed documents mixed together, meaning they needed to be re-sorted.

Elly didn't care at all. She ignored the scattered papers and ran towards Luo, leaping at him.

The stern expression on her face melted away, replaced by a joyful emotion, like a dancing fairy.

Seeing Elly excitedly pounce on him, Luo didn't evade nor embrace, letting her fall into his arms.

Soft warmth in his embrace, fragrant breath in his mouth, Luo felt a bit helpless, marveling at how easily her strong-willed demeanor dissolved.

"Click, click."

Beside them, the sound of wood colliding came, ruining the moment.

A blond doll tilted its head slightly, looking at the two hugging, as if puzzled.

"Quiet."

Elly's face was deeply buried in Luo's chest, ordering the blond doll.

The doll complied, stopping its mouth movements, and the study fell silent.

"Alright, let go now." Luo said after a moment.

"I won't, just won't!"

Elly coyly nuzzled against him, showing none of her usual strong-willed demeanor.

"Don't be naughty."

Luo patted Elly's hands wrapped around him.

"Just ten minutes, no, five minutes." Elly looked up at Luo, her smile like a blooming flower.

Luo looked down at Elly's happy face, her black-framed glasses adding an intellectual beauty.

Time flew, and people changed unconsciously.

They grew up or grew old.

Luo nodded, he compromised, enduring the soft warmth against him, trying to suppress his physiological reaction.

Elly slowly closed her eyes, looking serene, like a ship finding a harbor after drifting in the vast ocean for a long time.

Five minutes passed quietly.

Luo looked at Elly's comfortable expression, reluctant to remind her, and fell silent.

Time flowed gently until half an hour later, a knock on the door startled them.

Elly released her hands, took a step back, quietly looking at Luo.

"Is there something on my face?" Luo touched his cheek.

Elly chuckled, shook her head, tidied her clothes slightly, and looked at the door, calmly saying, "Come in."

The door opened on cue, and Kenda walked in.

"I had someone prepare a late-night snack." Kenda looked at the two.

Elly nodded at Kenda, then looked at Luo, asking, "Hungry?"

"A bit." Luo replied.

"Okay."

Elly directly took Luo's hand and walked towards the door.

Kenda turned, leaving the study first, leading the way.

A few minutes later, Luo and Elly sat at the dining table having a late-night snack.

The blond doll stood silently beside them, watching Luo.

Luo quickly finished his snack, meeting the doll's gaze.

Though manipulated by Nen, it had an independent look, seemingly having a nascent consciousness.

He remembered it wasn't like this the last time he saw it.

"Soul Echoes, my revised Nen." Seeing Luo notice the doll's change, Elly put down her bowl and spoon.

"What exactly does it do?"

Luo was quite surprised. Elly's previous self-created Nen, "Universal Sticky Notes," was a manifested notebook. Tearing off a page, writing a keyword, and sticking it on a non-living object enabled basic operations.

Now it was revised to "Soul Echoes," the name suggesting a connection to the soul.

Revising one's Nen wasn't simple.

"I reduced the fifty sticky notes to two, changing the overall Nen effect, so I renamed it."

Elly raised her hand, manifesting a thin pink sticky note book, with no pages left. She explained, "One of the remaining sticky notes, I wrote 'soul' on it, then fused it with the doll, creating a soul."

Hearing Elly's explanation, Luo frowned, asking, "What's the condition?"

Involving the soul, he couldn't imagine the required condition.

"Nourishment."

Elly looked at the blond doll as if looking at a close friend.

"Nourishment?"

Luo's expression changed, immediately thinking of lifespan or energy.

"Hehe, not what you think." Elly seemed to guess Luo's thoughts, explaining, "Using Nen to nourish it. From the moment the effect started, I must continuously send Nen to Little Gold."

"This might be a long process, but I believe, one day, Little Gold's soul will be complete."

Luo's slightly tense expression relaxed a bit, surprised, "That's it? The price seems small."

Generally, manifesting a Nen beast with nascent intelligence wasn't easy, and Elly's Soul Echoes belonged to manipulation, a branch of materialization.

This was beyond Nen beasts, directly injecting a soul into a non-living entity, requiring a substantial condition, unlike creating Nen beasts.

However, Nen could be explained as "form follows thought."

Wanting something and getting it, following one's heart, might make the condition less harsh.

Elly's attitude towards the doll since childhood subtly formed an indispensable factor, enabling her to create Soul Echoes.

Thus, the condition was simply continuous Nen nourishment.

This condition seemed easy, but for someone frequently in battles, it was extremely harsh.

Naming it Little Gold...

"I don't know."

Elly shook her head slightly. Her established vows and conditions for Soul Echoes were just that, successfully forming it.

Luo looked at Little Gold, asking, "Does it have an independent soul now?"

"Yes, but our telepathy is still weak. I must verbally command her." Elly said.

Luo continued, "Is her soul's origin from you?"

Little Gold's situation was somewhat similar to the black cat, whose soul could be said to originate from Luo.

Hearing this, Elly fell silent.

Seeing this, Luo was puzzled.

About ten seconds later, Elly replied, "No, Little Gold's soul is entirely created from nothing. Actually..."

She paused, saying, "Since nourishing began, I occasionally thought of a possibility. Maybe Little Gold's body originally had soul fragments, and I didn't create but awakened them, like watering a seed until it sprouted."

The doll was made from a living person.

Luo's eyes changed slightly, could it be?

In essence, the doll was a corpse. If Elly's guess was correct, this might be more terrifying than creating a soul.

Not creating but awakening a scaffold through soul fragments, then nourishing it with Nen, restoring it to its original state.

Resurrection?

Suddenly, Luo inexplicably thought of the beautiful woman in Stajy's tomb.

Thinking of this, Luo subconsciously shook his head. Even though Nen was bizarre and omnipotent, bringing back a deceased soul was too absurd.
