The autumn mountain wind wasn't too harsh, but it was cold enough to seep into the blood vessels.
At the top of the cliff lay a body that had just died recently, its corpse chilled by the mountain breeze.
Beside it lay a man with his limbs twisted in an irregular manner, his thick eyebrows knotted in pain, his low moans mixing with the wind.
Luo sat on the thick-browed man, and perhaps due to the strong wind, the cigarette in his mouth quickly burned down to the butt.
"It seems you don't have the guts to kill yourself. I'm disappointed."
Luo stood up, flicked away the cigarette butt, and lifted the thick-browed man with one hand. Taking advantage of the evening wind and night, he leaped down.
The thick-browed man saw this and his low moans instantly turned into higher-pitched cries.
He watched as this man, who appeared out of nowhere, walked with him in the air. His heart felt as if it were thrown into a freezer at minus eighteen degrees, covered in frost, a suffocating sensation growing.
He had been practicing nen for over ten years, but his deep-rooted beliefs were completely shattered.
Suicide, suicide...!
He wailed in his heart, but at this moment, he couldn't even manage to kill himself.
In the manor, blood soaked the grass.
The security team surrounded the man in black. Despite having an absolute advantage in numbers, nearly twenty men were killed within a few minutes.
Fortunately, they had the advantage of numbers and terrain, and Kenda had not given the order to capture the intruder alive. Moreover, the intruder was injured, so they eventually shot him to death with a barrage of bullets.
As soon as the battle was over, Kenda, in the study, received the news.
"Elly, the intruder has been subdued."
Kenda looked at Elly, who was buried in her work at the desk, and reported.
Elly paused, put down the document in her hand, looked up at Kenda, and asked, "What are the losses?"
Kenda slightly lowered his head and replied, "Twenty-four dead."
"Despite the equipment, numbers, and terrain advantages, plus the intruder being injured by you, twenty-four still died." Elly sighed softly.
Kenda's expression stiffened, unsure of how to respond. Despite the harsh training, the combat effectiveness of the security team had not improved, and monthly intrusions still resulted in heavy losses.
Ultimately, the line between nen users and ordinary people was the key issue.
"Double the compensation." Elly turned her head to look at the window, which had been destroyed in the chaos, and said calmly, "Since the quality can't be improved, use quantity. Do you understand?"
"Understood." Kenda nodded, knowing that Elly meant to establish a continuous supply of security personnel, either through private channels or by hiring from security companies.
"I have work to do. Go handle the other matters, including tonight's sniper." Elly picked up her document again, standing next to a half-human-tall doll.
"Got it!"
Kenda responded and leaped out of the broken window, heading towards the location of the black-clad man's death.
The aftermath was quickly taken care of by those responsible, swiftly removing the bodies of their companions, leaving only the intruder's body untouched.
Kenda squatted by the corpse, looking at the bloodstained, bullet-ridden face, his eyes flashing with anger. He suddenly looked up at his subordinates.
"I said not to hit the face of intruders, dead or alive."
Hearing Kenda's words, the subordinates around him all lowered their heads in silence.
Kenda sighed lightly, took out a handkerchief, and wiped the corpse's face clean. Then, he gestured to a nearby subordinate.
The subordinate quickly approached Kenda.
"Give me your phone." Kenda ordered.
Without hesitation, the subordinate handed over his phone.
Kenda took the phone, snapped a photo of the corpse's bullet-ridden face, then tossed the phone back, saying, "Take this to the research department and have them restore the face as much as possible, then find out this person's background."
"Yes!"
The subordinate took the phone and headed towards a building in the night.
Kenda slowly stood up and walked towards the house. Before leaving, he left an order: "Dispose of the body and return to your posts."
The remaining twenty or so people immediately began to act upon hearing Kenda's command.
At that moment, the sound of whistling wind came from above.
Everyone looked up, astonished to see a dark figure pulling a person down from the sky, landing in front of Kenda.
Shush!
The security team instantly raised their guns, but no one dared to shoot because Kenda was in front of them.
Kenda heard the wind, and seeing the dark figure landing before him, he suddenly opened his aura nodes, releasing his nen.
"Kenda."
At this moment, the dark figure called out Kenda's name.
Kenda's nen flow halted for a moment. Seeing the person clearly, he exclaimed, "Luo."
As soon as he spoke, he raised his hand towards the security team behind him, saying, "He's one of us. Lower your guns."
The security team lowered their guns slowly but couldn't hide their shock as they looked at Luo. This man could walk in the air, bypassing the security lines.
"Bang."
Luo threw the person he was holding to the ground and said, "Just caught the sniper. Is Elly okay?"
Kenda, hearing this, had a flash of joy in his eyes and replied, "She's fine."
He glanced at the thick-browed man, whose limbs were broken and whose breath was weak. He couldn't believe that Luo had suddenly arrived and helped them solve the key loose end tonight.
A thought occurred to him: Was the missed shot earlier due to Luo's interference?
"This man is a nen user, capable of materializing a sniper rifle. I kept him alive so you can interrogate him." Luo said to Kenda.
"He fired one shot, but it missed," Kenda said.
"Yes, although he managed to pull the trigger, at least he was disturbed." Luo looked towards the house and asked, "Is Elly asleep?"
Kenda, realizing it was indeed Luo's interference, felt grateful and replied, "No, she's in the study."
"I'll go find her. This man is yours." Luo headed towards the house.
"Got it."
Kenda responded, his eyes turning cold as he looked at the thick-browed man.
Luo, familiar with the way, reached the study, looking at the wall broken by the nen bullet and the messy window. He then lightly leaped through the window into the study.
Shush!
A dark figure darted from the desk area—it was the golden-haired doll guarding Elly.
"Stop."
Elly called out.
The golden-haired doll halted abruptly, its deep eyes fixed on Luo, its lips chattering and making a clacking sound. In dim light, it would indeed be terrifying.
Luo observed the increasingly autonomous doll, realizing that this was no ordinary manipulation type effect.
"Elly's nen must have changed during the time I was away," Luo thought, looking up at the long-unseen Elly.
"Luo!"
Elly stood up suddenly, her face full of surprise.
