Gourmet Hunter - Chapter 484

Chapter 484: Flies

In a world where even killers can pay taxes, there are too many who act with impunity.

Assassination is a common method in business dealings.

The shrewd businessmen understand this well, so they place great emphasis on security.

Ellie’s estate covers a vast area, with three layers of checkpoints guarding the mountain road, forest path, and main road leading to the estate.

The estate is equipped with highly professional bodyguards and a private army trained by Kenda, whose main task is to guard the area closest to Ellie.

With such preparations, it can be considered an ironclad fortress.

However, there are too many skilled individuals, and even the strongest fortress can be breached. In the face of formidable individuals, such defenses might seem insignificant.

In fact, every month, assassins attempt to visit. Those who directly infiltrate the estate are usually highly skilled and daring, making them hard to guard against.

Tonight, the sky was clear, and the moonlight was bright, providing good visibility, which made the guards' job easier.

However, despite having personnel posted at every position, there are always flies that manage to slip through.

A man dressed in black silently passed through multiple layers of security, infiltrating the estate directly towards Ellie's location.

His smooth path indicated that he had detailed intelligence.

The man in black wore a baseball cap, his face obscured by shadows.

His approach was stealthy, in line with assassination protocols.

Quickly and cautiously, he avoided all detection, arriving outside Ellie’s room, hiding in the low bushes.

“This is it.”

The man in black looked up at the lit room on the third floor.

He first checked the surroundings. Once confident, he leapt lightly, pressing a single hand against the wall next to the window, using a suction-cup tool to fix himself in place.

Peering through the window, he saw Ellie at her desk, immediately confirming his target.

“No bodyguards in the room.”

Seeing Ellie alone, engrossed in her documents, a hint of joy flashed in the man’s cold eyes. To him, this high-paying job was as good as done.

He slowly extended his hand, through the window, towards the oblivious Ellie, his palm quietly emitting nen.

Compared to the silenced gun in his holster, he preferred to trust his Emission-type nen ability for this lucrative contract.

Nen gathered in his palm, compressing into a bead-sized sphere, filled with a cold killing intent.

The nen sphere didn’t need to be large, but the timing and speed of its release had to be perfect, ensuring minimal noise and avoiding shattering the glass.

“Seems like I can handle this alone.”

The man’s eyes brightened, and just as the nen sphere was about to shoot out, a half-human-sized golden-haired doll suddenly appeared in front of the window, shrouded in a thin aura.

“Crack crack.”

The doll’s abyss-black eyes stared at the man in black, its lips moving to produce a faint clicking sound.

The man’s eyes narrowed sharply, and the nen sphere flew towards the close golden-haired doll.

The doll opened its mouth, swallowing the nen sphere whole, unharmed, continuing its clicking sound, which seemed like mocking laughter to the man.

“What is this thing?”

The man in black was startled, glancing quickly at the desk where Ellie was supposed to be, only to find her missing. His eyes swiftly moved, spotting the golden-haired woman by the red wooden door.

“Kenda, another fly has flown in.”

Ellie leaned against the wall by the door, her pale fingers adjusting her glasses, her calm eyes looking at the man hanging outside the window.

The once slightly spoiled little girl had now completely transformed.

The door opened, and Kenda rushed in, immediately spotting the man outside the window, his face turning grim with a hint of anger.

That anger was directed at the estate’s security team, who had once again allowed an assassin to reach Ellie’s room undetected.

One look at Kenda's expression told Ellie he was furious.

Indeed, the assassin had crossed the line, highlighting the security team’s incompetence, but this did not negate the assassin's skill.

“Let’s deal with this fly first,” Ellie said calmly.

“Understood.”

Kenda nodded, pressed a device in his ear, and a monocle appeared over his right eye. He then drew his gun, firing at the man outside the window.

The man let go of the suction cup, dropping down as Kenda pulled the trigger.

The gunshot shattered the night’s silence, and glass rained down on the man below.

“Damn, the intel didn’t say the target could use nen.”

The man cursed softly, stepping back to avoid the falling glass shards, then whispered into his communication device, briefly reporting the situation.

Kenda approached the window, and with the help of his monocle, which had a “one-hit guarantee,” he predicted the man’s evasive moves, emptying the last three bullets in his clip.

The man, skilled with guns, could judge a precise line from the muzzle’s angle, allowing him to dodge bullets easily given enough distance.

But something felt wrong as he made his usual evasive move.

A keen sense of danger saved him.

The three bullets all hit his body.

One in the ribs, one in the left elbow, one in the heart.

Each bullet caused varying degrees of damage. The bullets to the ribs and heart only bruised him, but the one to his elbow went straight in.

This was the result of nen defense.

Injured, the man's eyes turned slightly red, but he didn’t linger, retreating quickly while keeping an eye on the people closing in from all directions.

In the room, Ellie stood beside Kenda, saying, “Leave the rest to the security team. I have work to do.”

Kenda hesitated, suggesting, “Tonight is unsettling. How about resting early?”

“No, I have too much to handle,” Ellie replied firmly.

Kenda sighed inwardly.

On a distant mountain, two figures lay prone on an outcropping, one holding a strange long gun that appeared to be a sniper rifle.

Through the red dot scope, Kenda and Ellie could be seen standing by the window.

“Load the bullets.”

The gunman said in a deep voice.

The person next to him pressed a hand on the sniper rifle, nen flowing into the magazine.

Moments later, the gunman smirked coldly and pulled the trigger.

At the same moment, as Ellie turned back towards her desk, a huge hole exploded in the wall beside the window, its force affecting the room’s walls.

Both Kenda and Ellie were momentarily stunned. In the next instant, Kenda threw himself at Ellie, pinning her to the ground, away from any visible range.

“It’s a sniper.”

Kenda said solemnly.

Just seconds from death, Ellie remained calm, saying, “The sniper threat should have been eliminated long ago.”

The nearest sniping point, even with the longest-range sniper rifle, was still far beyond effective range.

Kenda said nothing, feeling only immense relief that the sniper’s aim was off by a mile.

Was it really poor aim?

On the outcropping, Luo sat on the back of the crippled gunman, lighting a cigarette.

“If you’re capable of suicide, hurry up.”

Luo patted the gunman, whose limbs were all broken.
