Luo planned to leave the day after tomorrow. Bertha might have misunderstood something, but as long as Mito didn't bring it up, he had no intention of explaining.
After leaving Whale Island, he might not have the chance to return, as he was heading to the Dark Continent.
After Gon finished his bath, it was Luo's turn.
Living in the forest for the past week, Luo could only maintain basic hygiene. A hot bath was a welcome treat.
Steam rose in the bathroom, creating a white mist.
Luo soaked in the bathtub, feeling completely relaxed.
Moments later, a figure appeared behind the frosted glass door.
"I took your clothes for washing and left some clean ones here," came Mito's voice from outside the door.
"Alright," Luo responded.
Washing clothes was something Luo had casually mentioned, but since it had become part of their agreement, he went along with it.
Mito didn't say anything more. She picked up the clothes and left.
After a while, Luo finished his bath, got out of the tub, and brought the clothes from outside.
It was a set of men's clothes, a bit small, with a mix of perfume and mildew scents. It might have been Mito's father's clothes.
Using his Nen, Luo removed both the perfume and mildew smells, then put on the clothes and walked out of the bathroom.
As he reached the living room, Gon, wearing pajamas, clung to him, asking for more adventure stories.
Luo didn't refuse and took Gon to the second-floor open-air balcony. Under the evening breeze, he began to narrate his experiences in the Kendia Desert.
Time passed, and night deepened.
Gon, instead of getting sleepy, became more energetic. Only when Mito came to call him for bed did he reluctantly return to his room.
After ensuring Gon was in bed, Mito left the room. Passing through the living room, she saw Luo sitting on the sofa.
She glanced at him, said nothing, and returned to her room.
Luo watched her leave and soon went to the guest room to sleep.
Early the next morning, Luo took Gon into the forest to gather ingredients.
Every time they encountered something new, be it plants, animals, or insects, Gon, curious as ever, would ask countless questions.
Throughout the journey, Luo patiently satisfied Gon's curiosity. To Gon, Luo seemed to know everything and was incredibly capable.
Gon had a good memory, retaining everything Luo taught him, which would greatly help him in the forest later.
Luo wasn't just indulging Gon's curiosity; he also explained potential threats and noteworthy flora and fauna in detail while searching for ingredients.
One taught earnestly, and the other listened attentively.
By evening, they returned home with a bounty of ingredients.
Upon arriving home, Luo went straight to the kitchen and quickly prepared a large table of dishes, mostly Chinese home-cooked meals, which caught Bertha and Mito's attention.
The seafood fried rice Luo had eaten at the tavern was made by Bertha, and Mito's cooking skills were also quite good. However, they had never seen Luo's dishes before.
Though some dishes looked similar to their usual home-cooked meals, the overall framework was quite different.
Luo didn't hold back, explaining each dish to the curious Bertha and Mito, even sharing the recipes.
Bertha and Mito listened intently, asking questions when they didn't understand, and Luo answered in detail.
It was foreseeable that after Luo left Whale Island, the island's only tavern might transform into a semi-restaurant, featuring the dishes Luo made that night on its menu.
"Can we eat now?" Gon rubbed his stomach as he looked at the three of them still discussing.
Hearing Gon's protest, the three exchanged glances and smiled.
The table full of home-cooked dishes was finally devoured, receiving high praise from Gon's family.
Unbeknownst to them, even Ging occasionally sought Luo out for a meal when the timing was right.
Another day passed, from morning to evening, seemingly in the blink of an eye.
At the port, a large sailing ship was docked, its deck already filled with passengers.
Many ships in the Hunter world, like buses, stopped at various places to pick up and drop off passengers.
From the first to the last stop, passengers would board and disembark along the way.
Mito and Gon accompanied Luo to the port.
The ship Luo chose would sail along the coastlines of two continents, passing through the port of La Xiang City, Luo's destination.
La Xiang City was a coastal city. Since the previous incident, the presence of drugs had faded, replaced by a thriving shipyard trend and a flourishing transportation industry, spearheaded by Elly.
In six or seven years, the city had undergone a significant transformation.
Luo's visit to La Xiang City had two purposes: to see Elly and to ask her to help build a suitable ship for him.
"This is as far as you go," Luo said, stopping at the boarding plank and turning to smile at Mito and Gon.
Mito remained silent, but Gon reluctantly asked, "Boss Luo, when will you come back to Whale Island?"
Luo didn't know how to answer Gon's question.
His future journey was to prepare for the Dark Continent. Once he left, he didn't know how long it would take, and he might not return, so he couldn't give Gon a definite time.
"When I have free time," Luo replied, patting Gon's head vaguely.
In truth, Luo didn't think he'd be able to return to Whale Island anytime soon.
"Got it," Gon said.
At that moment, the sound of an iron pot being struck came from the deck, signaling the passengers to prepare for departure.
"I have to go," Luo said, retracting his hand. Looking at Gon, he advised, "When you're alone in the forest, always be careful. Don't let curiosity put you in danger. Remember that, okay?"
"Okay," Gon nodded vigorously.
Luo smiled, glanced at the silent Mito, and without further delay, walked up the plank to the deck.
A few minutes later, the ship raised its sails and slowly headed out to sea.
"Boss Luo, safe travels!" Gon ran along the port, waving at Luo standing by the railing as the ship sailed away.
The sailboat moved farther and farther under the orange-red twilight of the setting sun, eventually becoming a small black dot in Gon's eyes.
Mito came to Gon's side, holding his shoulder.
Even without looking at Gon, she could feel the reluctance in his heart.
In truth, Mito also wished Luo could stay a bit longer.
...
La Xiang City, halfway up a mountain.
There stood a grand mansion, almost a large estate.
The owner of the estate, Elly, held the top position in La Xiang City's assets, controlling the city's shipyards and a significant portion of the transportation industry.
Despite her vast assets, Elly often faced tight liquidity, sometimes struggling to make ends meet, a situation she had once narrowly escaped thanks to Luo's help.
The tight situation was due to continuous investment in expansion plans.
Late at night, the study's light was still on. Elly, wearing thick black-framed glasses, was working at her desk.
Stacks of documents were neatly organized, and a cup of cold coffee sat on the cleared desk.
Outside the window, the night was deep and silent.
In an unnoticed corner of the darkness, a faint killing intent lingered.
