Gon accepted the invitation, but Luo was worried that he might be chased out with a broom by Mito.
This concern did not come true when he arrived at Gon's house. Why, you ask...
Mito opened the door and saw Luo standing next to Gon. She froze for a moment, then silently went back inside. After a while, she came back, not with a broom, but with a kitchen knife.
"Aunt Mito!"
Gon was so shocked that his eyes widened in surprise.
"Hey, don't do anything rash."
Luo watched as Mito came out with the knife. Although he had countless ways to subdue her, he chose to step back.
"You."
Mito's gaze was unfriendly, and she had something to say, but seeing Gon there, she swallowed her words and took a few steps forward, making a chopping motion.
She wanted to ask Luo about his relationship with Ging but didn't want Gon to hear. Her chopping motion was more of a threat.
Luo stepped back several steps, looking at the fierce Mito, and said, "You know, acting like this will make it hard for you to get married."
"What did you say?!" A vein bulged on Mito's forehead.
"Women should be gentle and kind to be likable," Luo continued fearlessly.
Mito's eyes narrowed instantly, and a hint of killing intent flashed.
To take care of Gon, she hadn't thought about marriage in the short term and didn't care much about it, but she didn't like being reminded of it.
At this moment, an elderly woman's kind voice came from inside the house.
"Mito, that's enough."
Bertha walked out, looked at the knife in Mito's hand, and said sternly, "Put down the knife. What kind of behavior is this?"
Mito pursed her lips, stomped lightly, put away the knife, and went back to the kitchen, sulking as she prepared dinner.
Seeing Bertha appear in time, Gon breathed a sigh of relief. A few days ago, he had naively thought that Mito wouldn't chase Luo with a knife, but reality proved otherwise.
"Sorry to embarrass you."
After persuading Mito, Bertha apologized to Luo.
"It's nothing," Luo waved it off.
"Come in and sit," Bertha invited.
Luo glanced at Gon and nodded.
The three of them entered the house and went directly to the dining room.
The house was filled with modern appliances, including a refrigerator and television, making it feel a bit crowded.
The dining room and kitchen were essentially one space, separated by a counter.
Mito was busy in the kitchen, glaring at Luo when he came over.
Luo winked at Mito, causing her to cut the green pepper crookedly on the chopping board.
"Please sit."
Bertha smiled and invited Luo to sit.
Luo didn't stand on ceremony, pulled out a chair, and sat down. Bertha went into the kitchen to prepare hot tea.
Gon sat next to Luo and whispered, "Boss Luo, Aunt Mito isn't usually like this. Please be understanding."
Hearing Gon's words, Luo was stunned. It didn't sound like something a six-year-old would say. But if he remembered correctly, Gon had mastered the art of flirting at a very young age due to his environment.
In a sense, he was quite mature.
After a while, Bertha brought over the hot tea.
"Thank you," Luo accepted the tea and thanked her.
After some introductions, they all knew each other's names.
Gon enthusiastically recounted his experiences over the past few days, a smile spreading across his face.
Bertha watched the happy Gon with silent contentment, and although Mito was busy preparing dinner, she listened to everything Gon said.
After a while, Gon finished speaking, though he was still eager to talk. Thinking that Luo might leave the day after tomorrow, he felt a bit sad.
After all, he was still young and couldn't hide his emotions, which showed plainly on his face.
Seeing the somewhat sad Gon, Luo thought of Killua.
Initially, he just wanted to get to know young Killua and Gon. If possible, he also wanted to meet young Kurapika. As for Leorio, he didn't care as much.
Gon, Killua, and Kurapika were three characters Luo loved in his past life, and now they were living, breathing people.
While he wanted to get to know them, Luo didn't want the two kids to become dependent on him.
"Stay for dinner tonight," Bertha invited Luo.
"Sure, I don't mind," Luo accepted without hesitation.
Bertha smiled slightly and said, "The dishes you had Gon bring back these past few days were unique and tasted great. I've never had such delicious food before."
"You flatter me. If you like it, I'll find some good ingredients in the mountains tomorrow. I'm quite confident in my cooking skills," Luo said humbly.
Bertha wanted to politely decline, but Gon interrupted, "Great-grandma, please agree. Boss Luo is leaving Whale Island in a couple of days. Who knows when we'll get to taste his cooking again."
"Gon, what did you call him?"
Mito suddenly turned her head, her eyes sharp.
"Uh..." Gon shrank his neck.
Seeing Gon's reaction, Mito looked at Luo again. Luo winked at her once more.
"Mito," Bertha called.
"Hmph."
Under Bertha's stern gaze, Mito snorted and continued preparing dinner.
Bertha apologized to Luo again, "Luo, are you in a hurry to leave?"
Seeing Gon so happy today, Bertha hoped Luo could stay a bit longer to keep Gon company.
"I have some matters to attend to," Luo nodded.
Since he planned to go to the Dark Continent soon, he needed to handle the issue of the ship.
He intended to go to La Xiang City to find Ellie and see if her shipyard could build a specialized ship for him.
Bertha expressed her regret and handed over the dinner preparation duties to Luo for the next two days.
Luo readily agreed to this request.
Then, before Mito finished preparing dinner, Luo casually mentioned the unique spices used by the locals in the Amarlo Jungle, leading to a discussion about the places he had visited and some of his unique experiences over the years.
He didn't use exaggerated words to embellish his stories. Even when talking about the deadly threats in nature, he was calm.
Gon listened intently, completely absorbed. Even Bertha, who had lived most of her life, listened seriously, and Mito's dinner preparation unconsciously slowed down.
The three of them had mostly stayed on Whale Island and rarely ventured outside. It wasn't surprising that they were captivated by Luo's stories.
Mito slowly put down the knife, a complicated expression on her face as she thought of Ging.
Time passed, and the kitchen began to fill with the aroma of food, indicating that dinner was almost ready.
"Boss Luo, can you stay tonight? I want to hear more of your adventures!" Gon looked at Luo expectantly.
"This..." Luo didn't know whether to agree or refuse.
He initially thought Mito would outright reject Gon's request, but she chose to remain silent.
Bertha was quite surprised by Mito's silence. She was curious about why Mito had such a bad attitude towards Luo.
Then, seeing the eager look on Gon's face and the hesitation on Luo's, Bertha said, "Since Gon wants you to stay tonight, if you don't mind, you can stay."
"Yes, yes," Gon nodded eagerly.
"Alright," Luo reluctantly agreed, mainly because Mito didn't object this time.
Ging, oh Ging, you're so unreliable.
In his previous life, Luo had no attachments, so he had no psychological burden when going on adventures. But Ging was different.
"Great!"
Gon jumped up excitedly when Luo agreed.
